Default Ls1 worth boosting? or 6.0l swap? Turbo size?

Ive got a LS1 already in my car with a tqv2 cam on a 114lsa. Would it be worth putting on 317 heads and run it? Or build a forged 6.0? How much Horsepower could I make? Would it be worth building for boost?I plan installing arp rod bolts and such. Maybe use a Turbonetics Tc78 turbo? or TC76 better? Masterpower anygood? Thanks!

Stock engine maybe with the 317 heads is ok if you are not greedy with boost and want to stay in that under 600rwhp range. Forged 6.0 is nice if you want to go past 550 /600rwhp. Factory pistons are big weak link ,factory cranks are decently strong, rods not bads, rod bolts not the greatest. But the pistons can lose ringlands.

How much boost is too much depends on too many factors..airflow of the turbo you choose, etc. Rough guide is most factory motor guys seem to be ok at 5 to 7psi and maybe up to 10psi if you drop compression down to 9.5 or so. But again this is rough guide only.

Master power turbos seem to be pretty good for the money. Local guy ran one on his third gen build and it ran pretty good. He has since sold the car but he was getting low 11s from a pretty budget build.

Call up a cam company like EPP or get in contact with PatG, they will get you setup with a nice cam. Definitely get some forged pistons, make sure you get them dished a decent CC that way you can get down to about 9.4 CR with those 317s!

Ok will do. Ive been tearching torquer V2 cams for forced induction on here. Its barely been touched.. Just a few times. Its on a 114lsa.it should be good... So how does your car feel with that stock shortblock in it? Think your tc76 has plenty more boost to go? Thanks guys!

Hell there are a few guys running 800hp out of them 5.3s with 18lbs on a stock bottom end with 317s The 6.0s are over rated for boost applications

Thats what I've hears...Thats 6.0's are over rated. To stay with my ls1. They like boost (except for the ringlands)

The ringlands don't break from boost... They break from DETONATION! Again, it's tuning that makes big horse power safe on a stock motor...

My ls1 used to see 20 psi from boost spikes prior to the Eboost2. Now I run 15 psi anytime I see something to race or I just get bored lol. I'm just not sure how it stays together, damn thing doesnt complain, My main issue is the boost pipe blowing off way to much . I need a ring welded around it so the clamp has something to hold on to.

Theres a trick i've heard... Modifying some wire crimping pliars and you can flare the pipes to keep them on.

LS1s are worth boosting but if you have currently have the money to do so, why not get the motor built for boost rather? My vote is a built 6.0 with less boost to achieve your desired rwhp and lb-ft tq.

From what I've seen it looks like Im gonna go LS1. Keep it stock for a while. Just gotta pick the turbo. Is there that big of diff between the t76master power and the tc78 turbonetics?at least for my power goals of 550-650 hp?

Quick Reply: Ls1 worth boosting? or 6.0l swap? Turbo size?
