Talking Testing out the TH400 for the first time

Got the swap finished last year but haven't really driven the car, have been busy on other projects.

I love how it feels around town but doing highway blasts it jsut doesn't have the top end I expect... I know the converter is slipping but I don't see it making that much difference? Everytime I was at WOT the RPMS hang at 6000 rpms while the car speeds up. The car is making 18 lbs of boost now and if it was a T56 it would be in the 1250 rwhp range, but it feels like it makes 800 hp when Im doing a pull in 3rd gear lol.
The converter is back at Circle D for adjustment, we will see how it feels after I put it back in.

I am excited to try and go down the track anyway.

anyway here is a little vid:

Sounds like you're stalling at 6K and blowing thru. The right converter will feel WAY different. Shoot for 800-1000 RPM shift extensions.

Converter does seem a bit loose based on how quick your shift light is coming on. I wouldn't be to worried about how it feels once you get the converter right. A 125mph 6spd car feels every bit as fast as my 135mph A3 car. Don't trust the dyno or your butt, trust the et and mph at the track.

I'm sure you'll like it alot more with the right converter, and like it a ton more at the track after you see your timeslips

Yeah, autos feel slower. Get the converter working right and let the timeslips be the judge.

Your converter is too loose. It's hard to tell from your tach, but how many RPMs are you dropping inbetween shifts? 98Z28CobraKiller, said it right in that you should see around 1000 RPM drop.

I think he's running 3.23 gears if my memory serves me correct. I may be wrong though.

The car sounds good! Is the shift light coming on because you are spinning the tires or is revinng that high on the converter? If you are @ 18lbs of boost, with the correct converter you should be killing the tires as soon as boost hits. I mean under a WOT pull, you would be pedalling it ALOT! I have mine@ 15lbs now, and is uncontrollable @ WOT.
I am also sure you redid your tune? Correct.

Does your TH400 have a transbrake? A tranbrake test can tell you alot, on the brake the engine should go to 3000-3300 before it starts stalling HARD!

The tires were not spinning once I was in 3rd gear... thats why I know the car feels weak compared to what it should be doing given the boost. It is just pushing through the converter. I checked my tune several times before and it is still where I like it, I didn't have to change anything from the 6 speed.

My car was uncontrolable as you describe... once I changed the rear end gears to 3.08s... it calmed down alot.

That is odd you didn't have to change anything on your tune. The load with the auto I thought would of been different than with the 6 speed. You get that converter tightened up and you will see a big difference. You will wonder why you ever had the 6 speed. LOL.
