396ci LT4, YSI and 15lb of boost dyno result :(
Hi,
I need you advice. I went to the dyno shop and I was disappointed with the result- I dont know if I should but I expected more power- .The engine made 671rwhp @ 6500 rpm and 583rwtq @ 5400 rpm. That's with 15psi boost,_ YSI with 2.75'' pulley and 7'' crank pulley, 95 octane fuel and 35 deg of total timing air/fuel ratio was 11.8- 12.2 . Charged air temp was 24 deg C.I need to know what I did wrong or is it the engine combo.your suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks.
engine specs,
- Vortech supercharger- YSi-trim.
- Vortech aftercooler.
- 396 ci, 8.0:1 Comp
- AFR 227 heads part# 1076
- Victor JR single plane intake
- LS1 90mm TB
- Cam: hydraulic roller Duration@.050 248/254 lift .562/580 lobe 114.0
- JESEL shaft mount rockers 1.5
- AFR hydra rev
- Hooker Long tube headers
- FAST Classic ecu.
- Edist- coil per cylinder-LS1 coils

Cam seems kind of big for this application. I'd bet your forcing unburnt mixture right out the motor. I'd give Patrick G a buzz and have him spec out a new cam specific to your motor. At the very least he would know if that cam is costing you power or not. A bump in compression (to 8.8-9.2) would help as well. I just know enough to be dangerous.

What type of inlet on the blower? I would think that combo wouldnt have trouble doing 800rwhp. 6-speed or auto. What type of dyno, any graphs? May be having belt slip also, many variables.

You should log boost readings in the intake track.Check for excessive backpressure in the exhaust or vacum before the blower.
How much cfm is the after cooler rated at?
Can you get a preaftercooler boost reading?
Sumthin definatly holden you back. Also at that compression/setup your sweet spot should be somewhere round 18-20psi on straight pump gas.

Need more compression...9.5 or a little better.

Its manual trans with mcleod street twin clutch.Boost reading before the cooler and after are almost the same. The cooler is water to air that Vortech make for LT1.Below is what my wideband commander recorded.I will post the hp an tq later.

A better cam for boost and Higher compression are where I would start. The rest should fall into place. You still made great power considering the overlap in that cam. You have the cam card?

Take the hydra rev out. I had that in my old setup and it cost me over 80RWHP.
I made 700RWHP with a stock intake and ported stock heads. Smae YSI with 15 lbs of boost. The car should be in the 750 to 800 rwhp. I would lean in toward the rev kit. post a graph so we can see.
My machines said the only thing he could figure is that the rev kit was causing some sort of weird harmonics in the valve train.

The cam and the compression can be made to work. However, the intercooler is on the small side.
You NEED to take pressure readings before and after the intercooler. When I switched from a T-trim @ 13 psi to a turbo at 21 psi, my vortech aftercoler became a restriction. I was losing around 4 psi through the intercooler alone. I upgraded to a huge Bell unit and made the same power at 17 psi that I had been making at 21.

35deg does sound like a lot of timing.
And dont get too hooked on numbers. Some dyno's read low, some read bullshit, and some read in the middle.
How does it perform ?
With a CR as low as that though, wind more boost into it.
