Minor Updates on the 106MM SS
Got a bunch crap done over the weekend. Did a final mounting of the shifter, wiring done on A/F gauge and boost controller. More this next weekend. Still need to figure out the water pump leak - very possible just an O ring. It felt good to get behind the wheel and fired it up. With the solid motor mounts, the SS feels really smooth driving her

The way Thunder pays out it would 2-3 years to get enough just for the block. Maybe we can make it to Iowa.Vegas is great. A little hot - 100+ yesterday - but it was a 'dry' hot

still trying to get a few things ironed out (like fuel pump). shooting for july 3rd to be done. KCIR pay out's are pretty decent.
P.S. we all need to get a date to have our cages certified.
1. Bought new in Feb 1998
2. 1998-2000 - Totally stock except a few "blink" features for car shows
3. 2000-2002 - Auto-crossed for 3 years -- suspension -- shocks, springs, rims
4. 2002 - 1st year of drag racing - 17" all the way around, best of 13.9
5. 2003 - T/b, removed some weight, got the SS into the low 13's; ET Streets; better suspension
6. 2003 - Better tune - 12.7-12.8; actually ET Drag
7. 2004 - Nitrous -- low 12's, 12 bolt
8. 2004 - Patriot heads, TS nitrous cam; LS6 intake, 1st 11 second pass on nitrous, 12.2 N/A - still with the M6
9. End of 2004-2005 - Tired of fixing M6, went to A3 (mid-season), same Patriot heads, TS cam, 150 shot, put the car on the back bumper and broke by stock bottom end engine - best of 10.08 at 135 on 200 shot by the end of the year
10. 2005 - Later part of the 2005 - Built NA 408 (waiting for winter and turbos); still on patriot heads/same cam - on a best of 11.1 NA (no nitrous)

14. Started in the winter of 2008 - no racing in 2009 - complete redo of the SS
15. 2010 - Soon... very soon
Figure 14 different builds over the years. First pass was 14.2 - best todate: 8.98 at 155. Same car. Not to bad

lol as soon as i read the frist page i was gonna commment on how i remembered the car back in ooohhhhhh #7.-8. era nitrous 6spd wheel stands and blown up rear ends. it was prolly closer to #8 as you made the switch or were about to to a 9in that was at scribnor in NE. man has it made some changes good luck man i hope it all works out 7s here you come....... if the haeds stay down lol
Camarokid94... the wheel-stand came during the 2005 Memorial Day race (that was the last race with the stock block and nitrous). The 408 was built during that summer, with only a couple races with the 408 N/A in Sept 2005. All with the 12-bolt rear-end. The turbo build happened winter 2005/6. The 9" came winter 2005/6. The twins ran 2006, 2007, and 2008. If I remember right, Scribner had to have been in early 2005 - didn't it close in 2006/7??? Don't remember going to Scribner with the turbo set-up. Believe the SS was still on nitrous and the 12-bolt but with the T-400. To bad that Scribner closed. Excessive Autosports did make a trip to the 1/8 mile track in Omaha during 2008. The SS made only 3 runs due a big *** storm coming in and they closed the track. That was a scary track at night. Didn't make any runs during 2009.
So much as for the heads. We have tried about everything to keep the heads down - short of a 6 bolt head. Nothing is for 'sure'. With the previous set-up, we had ARP bolts - now studs; we are running lines from the front and back of the heads. Larger blow-off tank and lines. The block is 1/2 filled now - hoping to give the block a little extra strength. With the new set-up, the car doesn't reach but 160 degrees.
Hopefully we'll see the SS at the track sooner than later.
