I'd go with the th400 especially with that 3.00 gear. With a glide it would probably be a dog of the line.

Next question for ya guys. Guy I know has a TCI th400 RMVB, T-brake, and comes with a 3600 stall. It was behind his 540. I know there was nothing wrong with it when he took it out, but its been sitting for 18 months. Think it would need a rebuild or just try putting fresh fluid in it and a new filter and see if it works?

If it were me i would put it in, change filter and fuild, let it idle for a while, run through the gears a few times, then drain the fuild and change filter and fuild again.

thats what I was thinking. I had a car sit for about that long with the trans still in the car. Changed fluid and filter, let it idle, changed it again and it was fine so I imagine this probably will be too. Its dirt cheap too (400 picked up)

Guess we know what im going with

I know the guy selling it though

He had 3 cars
a 41 willis coupe with a 572 BBC with an exact copy of this trans behind it
a 23? tbucket with the 355 and blower with this trans behind it (i rode in it two weeks ago to verify the trans was still good)
and a chevelle with a 502 with a blower in it and another exact copy of this trans.

He sold the willis and the chevelle, and sold the tbucket and the guy didnt want the trans. He is moving across country so he wanted a quick sale. So.....I am snatching it up

But, I did verify the trans was still good haha. This one is a stock style valve body though which kinda sucks. O well, a RMVB is only 200ish

and I know the owner of the shop that did all the work on the trannys and the cars, so that eases my mind as well.

That and with my 3.00 gears, I was worried about launching without tremendous HP like you are running

turbos love the load of the glide! Ive seen many people go fast with the glide over a th350 and th400! Na and turbo with same gears as b4. Im going to run 308's with a glide and still DD mine when i go turbo

I would definitly NOT pick my trans based on a currect gear ratio lol. Its a few hundred bucks to do a gear swap......and several thousand to swap transmissions. If the trans and converter turn out to work great......then you cant argue with your decision. But a gear swap and a glide is what I would have done.

Glide hands down. Every car we have put a glide in has went faster, every car. The most eye opening was a 02 SS that weighted 3920. It has a mild 427 and a 150 shot. First pass went 9.8x, he switched to a th400 has after 30 passes has not been back in the 9's yet. The converter with the glide was my Neal Chance setup for turbo and the th400 is a Precison speced for the setup.

at what point do you need to change from the stock bellhousing on a glide?

The glide I bought from my friend has
TCI pan, hardened input shaft (still glide style, so that'll get switched to th350 shaft more than likely), and a b&m rebuild kit in it, tci transbrake. Clutches are fried (6k RPM trans brake launches in a nitroused chevelle), so those will be replaced with red clutches and we'll see how she holds up for now!

I paid 140 bucks for it knowing what was wrong with it, and he gave me clutches to put in as well.
