Default Modifying a Turbo Tech kit?

I have the oppurtunity to pick up a used Turbo Tech kit from a buddy of mine. I was originally planning on building my own kit, but then this came along. I heard that the Turbo Tech kit wasnt the best design, and I know some people were modifying them. What exactly makes this kit not the best design, and what do you have to do to modify it? Just trying to see if its worth buying the kit and modifying it, or just start from scratch.

Thanks!

i think it would be better to pick up the used kit if you get it for a good price.
what turbo is it T60 or T76, does it have the 3" down pipe.

As for modifing it id redo the crossover (if it was the old style manual trans were it routed around the front of the car, i like my 2.5" X-over) and id get the 3" down pipe if it doesnt come with one, other then that it will do.

doing your own kit will be very costly and time consuming.
I dont regrete picking up my used kit and making the power i have now, cept i got that itch to get more boost.

Thanks Hawk! My buddy mentioned re-doing the x-over to go around the back instead of the front. It has the T60, but I think I am going to use a T76 that I had lined up for when I was going to start from scratch. I'm not sure what downpipe it has, but if it doesnt have the 3", im sure I can have one made.

Thanks for the help!

Definatly get the used kit. I`d call george at turbo tech for the downpipe it only costs 90 bucks. You can`t use just any T76 the housing will hit the side of the chassis You almost need to get the turbo from george, also not to mention the fact that the 60-1 turbo to intercooler piping won`t fit the 76 ( 60 2in outlet, 76 2.5in outlet.) George quoted me $1300 for the 3in Downpipe, T76 and cooler piping. Pretty good price for all the upgrades you get. The 76 costs around $1000 by itself. Good luck.

Thanks for your input, MYTURBOT/A. I will definatly take that into consideration. Looks like I am going to pick up the kit next weekend so I can bring it back to my shop and really get to go over the whole kit to see what all I am looking at.

Thanks guys!

wow, when I asked george about the down pipe it was like 250.00 as well.

do they actually make the under the car cross over now? I tried to get one about a month ago and they said that it wasnt available for the m6 cars, is that the case. I dont want the around the front style.

I have the 2.5" DP, and have modified the turbo to be a t-70, am going to use the aroudn the front pipe for a while and then get the under the car one later. I want to see what this car can make with like 15psi with the around the front, and the 2.5" DP.

Any gueses form any of you guys???

thanks

There is nowhere else to get a T-76 for the TT kit, huh? I have a 60-1, and a built low compression motor, hence the need for a T-76...

when i talked to Detroit speed works they told me its a true T76. you can mate the Turbe with different comprssor or exhast housing, as for the exhaust housing Turbotech uses a .96 AR standard.

as for the 2.5 inch down pipe any one need a ceramic coated one, i need to get rid of mine, its purty.
$40 (less then it costs to get yours coated.)

Damn i wish i could get a straight answer on the T76. Detroit speed told you it was a true t76 i`ve had others tell me it`s a true t76 but george still says it`s a hybrid. I also wonder why he quoted me so much lower for the DP maybe he has droped the price recently or maybe he just quoted me the wrong price. But i`ll make one myself if it`s $250 theres no way i`m paying that much for a piece of pipe that`s not that hard to make

I was hoping I could use a regular T76 myself so that I could buy it anywhere. Good to know about the .96 AR exhaust housing. Please tell me that I can get a regular 76...

I have the 3" downpipe, I had it coated locally. It's a nice piece, looks like four pieces TIG'd together.

I've been told by TurboTech its a true 76. The only way to know for sure is to ask the manufacturer of the turbo.

I spoke with george today about the rumors of him selling a larger log manifold for the t76 kit and he confirmed that they are now making a larger log. It`s 2.5in I.D with 2in primarys The cost is $750.00 The nice thing is all the cuts are cnc`d so everything lines up and theres no lip where the primarys enter the log like on the old kits. He also said that he`s working on some more upgrades for the kit to boost power and efficency.

yeah,
I have been in contact with him, they are about to release a under-the-car crossover pipe. I have some pics if someone wants to host them and post them up.

Its a nice unit. Im going to get the crossover, 3" DP , and log eventually. this kit will be less than the QMP kit and basically the same.

way to go Turbo Tech, I just want them to release the new crossover so I can get it.

Thanks

I`m impressed that TTi is trying to improve on the kit by making upgrades for the original kit. Alot of companys once they release the production kits leave it at that and don`t worry about working out any weaknesses the kit might have.
