Default is this a good turbo for a stock ls1

I have minor bolt ons now, air lid, cat back, gears... I wanna boost my car. it's an auto 2000 z28 w/ 38000 original miles. I know the engine is healthy, and It will take 5-6 psi fine IMO. I already got some 42# injectors. My question is.... would this be a good turbo for my car? This guy had it on a mustang before and he trapped 129mph in the 1/4 according to him at only 7psi.

Never heard of Comp Turbo but I havent been around that long. Should be able to pull off mid 11s ok. Will this be for a front mount or rear mount?

most likely front. It's a ball bearing so spool time should be good either way right???

It also has a pretty small a/r so spool time will be ridiculous. Id be worried about it running out of breathe up top though

it's rated for 700- 750 hp on the comp site. since I have an auto I'll let the tranny shift on it's own ussually at 5700-5800, I hope it spools by 2000 so I can leave the stock converter and still get boost off the line. I think this will be a perfect turbo now that you mentioned quick boost.

DO NOT BUY SOME EGAY KNOCKOFF TURBO!!!!!!!!! get a brand that is well known and has a reputation for making power. i bought a TC76 brand new for 1000 bucks and it is well trusted and known to make big numbers. on another note you should consider selling those 42s and getting some 60s. ask me how i know. my 42s were maxed out at less than 3 psi. if you want an early spooling turbo get an MPT70 with the .68 AR housing.

Good to know about the 42#'s I did a search, and COMP TURBO is made in California, I called and found out that the owners used to run Inovative turbo before they all spilt up. He was telling me they use tripple ball bearing instead of two and it maintains shaft stability as well as quicker spool. I think i'ma do the comp turbo. I seen to many videos about mp seals and bearing fail on youtube

I would also avoid this thing and go with a well known reputable brand. Dont get sucked into the "ball bearing" thing either. Its not needed and in most applications only improves spool by a few hundred RPM. That thing will be maxed out after 4500rpms on your motor. Call jose over at forced inductions. He will get you into something you will be very happy with. I know, I have bought two turbos from the guy. He knows his stuff.

It looks Identical to the Chinese turbos. Where the log says Comp Turbo, is the same looking piece as the China bay turbos that are stamed "Turbocharger" or T04Z etc...

edit: just like this one here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GODSP...Q5fAccessories

I am not a turbo expert and I'm not saying they're bogus turbos. Just wanted to point out my findings.

i emailed the guy and asked if it was too small, he said if I felt it was too small that he had a bigger one, and it's a garrett? I know they use garrents in some cars from the factory. Is this one good? I'm not gonna do the Comp Since I think you are right on the size and the brand is a little unpopular.

this is the other turbo he has. is this one good for a v8 I eventually wanna do a forged block with my x mas bonus ($12,000) I'm ahead on my sales at work so I should get that money by mid november. I'm only looking for 6 psi now but eventually I wanna turn it up when I gat that bonus.

Unless youre going to add cubes, thats way too big for a stock cubed motor.\

Just buy a masterpower 70 or 76. Plenty of us are running them.

Get a garrett, turnonetics, precision, or call the good guys at forced inductions on here and they'll dial in the perfect unit for your goals.

one of my coworkers has a 2003 cobra. we raced last week and he beat me by alot, he put a big kenne bell and that thing screams, I wanna race him again before the end of the year and show him what a boosted LS can do. can I do more cubes when I get the motor rebuilt with stroger internals or do I have to buy a ls7? i'd like the ls7 but its too much $ I only have $12k and that thing is well over 15k not including the labor.

You need to research some more. You can build a 400+ CI motor for less than 5k. Get a 6.0L truck motor(lq4,lq9) and stroke it. You will be able to get into the single digits with a 76mm just about.

Comp is not ebay or nothing like that. I will tell you that 67mm turbo will **** on a master power turbo and will make way more power than a MPT70 all day long. on top of that it will spool much faster doing it lol. My 70mm with a .84 a/r T4 housing and a 80mm turbine wheel spools faster than a .63 a/r P-trim MPT70 lol. What a/r is that 67mm Comp Turbo?
