Default Started the car for the first time... Vid inside... Need help ASAP!!!!

Well I started the car for the first time after the new setup and its making a very strange popping sound. The only thing changed from last setup to the new setup is 317 heads... I have checked for codes and nothing... Have changed plugs twice and checked all plug wires... The car has 3gal of fresh 110 and 5gal fresh 93 to the year old gas that was in it. Can someone please help me??? I need to get the car to the tuner.

Thats really strange. Did you check the valves / springs on those heads before you install them?

It has dual springs from my old heads and the heads got cleaned and checked by a engine shop prior to putting them on. I did put ls7 lifters in and had the rockers rebuilt with turion bearings.

We had a customer come in with a set of Comp Rockers in his GTO. Sounded like this, and turned out one of the rockers had broken on one side and the rocker was cocked sideways. You also could have a pushrod that was not on in the cup of the rocker.

Ill check everything out tomorrow. The sound is very very strange. Could timing cause this maybe? Backfire in the intake?

Are you sure it's coming from the engine? Might be something simple such as fan smacking something or something loose getting banged around.

I would think it had to be something mechanical if all you changed were the heads.

Zach

Edit: Just noticed in the video you had Fabricated Valve Covers on the car. Check to make sure one of the rockers is not hitting the top of the valve cover. This could be if the cover slid down while you were tightning it up.

Its just strange cuz it will stop then once gas is touched it will start again then come outta it... My a/f is kinda crazy too.. it will settle out at 14.5-14.8 and sounds good then barely touch the gas and it drops way down into the 11.5-12 range.

You probably didn't tighten one of the rocker arms down. Check the mechanical before fooling with the tune.

have you tried a hose up to your ear and moving the other end along the valve covers? Shade tree stethoscope. Looks like you have aftermarket valve covers? Are they new to the motor? I guess I am going along with the majority thinking a rocker is bad or a pushrod came out of the arm.

With the LS7 lifters the cup where the pushrod sits in sits a little higher than stock lifters. Therefore you would need a shorter pushrod than you had before. What was you piston to valve clearance BEFORE you installed the LS7 lifters?

EDIT, check your converter bolts also.I had a sound like that as well, and my converter bolts backed out. Sounded like my motor was coming apart.

Did you pull the valve covers? That should be your next step.

Converter bolts make a VERY bad sound. LOL

Pull the covers.... I had a set of YT rockers hit the covers and it made somewhat of a similar sound.

Bump,

It's because you were drinking beer when ya put those springs/rockers on the new heads if I remember correctly..! Haha, just kidding man, sorry I can't be down there to help ya out..

Take a day off work and pull that valve cover and check it out, hopefully nothing serious. The guys that built those covers did know what the clearance needed to be didn't they? But then again it would be repetitive, so maybe just a loose rocker or push rod unseated like the rest of the guys mentioned.

Converter bolts that just barely touch the block will sound like that and be hit and miss. Take the valve covers off and check everything. PTV will usually do it once and then you get a misfire depending on how bad it hits. I was basicly making you aware of the new LS7 lifters you installed require shorter pushrods since the pushrod cup sits higher than stock lifters.
