s-10 LSx Manifolds & headers...
I finally set the motor in my truck to start mocking things up, and as much as I hoped, the drivers side is too damn tight to use a flipped truck manifold. Im going to use one on the passenger side though to support the weight of the turbo. On the drivers side, im going to build something, but I was curious, when people build the log manifolds out of heavy weld sockets and steel pipe instead of exhaust tubing, is that for a reason other than how simple it is? I realize the log is much easier than a standard tube header, and really its not supporting weight, so is it just for how purely simple it is and it just ends up being really overkill ? and does anyone know of a manifold that turns tighter than a truck manifold off the flange? I need about 1/2 inch, and im thinking maybe I could start grinding on the manifold as well, and move the column over a 1/2 inch. heres a BAD cell phone pic for reference, but you can see the drivers side of the motor at the firewall is tight on the column!

hmm... might have to look into that again. almost bought a set a few months back
Im also going to probably cut the 2 pipes closest to the firewall off and see if I can add a few pieces in there to make them work if I cant get it otherwise

i have a set of 2010 camaro ss manifolds sittin on the shelf, seems like they are pretty tight to the engine. I don't have a set of truck manifolds to compare to, but if you would like to post up a pic of the truck manifold on edge so I can see how far the flange turns out or measure it, I could compare it to mine or send you pics. let me know.

I was thinking of using either c6 mani's or the front manifold off of a ls4 flipped on my setup. To give more clearance between motor and steering shaft, I was thinking of putting a custom 2 piece shaft, with a u-joint in the middle so it can be angled away from the motor a little.

im pretty sure the vette manifolds will not work on the drivers side UNLESS you add a few universal joints to the steering linkage and move it away from the motor a couple inches, its pretty tight..
this is mine, simple sanderson swap header with a v band collector, into a "crossover" pipe into a custom s/s log i made.
im using a tc78 turbo with 1.15 a/r housing for now....
im looking to make about 600rwhp with this and if it goes good, im gonna stick with the same hotside and move up to probably a precision 78 or BW S380, something with a much better exhaust wheel/housing...(and try for 800rwhp-ish)

FWIW when i built the system on the typhoon i went through every manifold we have at the shop, including C6,5th gen f-body,CTS-V you name it i tried it and none of them were even close to fitting.that doesnt mean that they wont work for you motor position would play a big part in it

I will have to trim a small portion off the bottom of the inner fender, but most will b there. And I've got to relocate the ecu slightly... and I'm using a smaller cylinder overflow tank instead of the stock plastic one.

I think I'm going to try something like this too. If I went with the C6 manifolds, not on would the steering shaft have to be moved, but the master cylinder would have to be replaced with a smaller unit or maybe have the vacuum booster removed.

thank you guys, i think for a "medium" street type build... say 550-600rwhp this will work quite well... ill let you know soon, im just waiting on some odds and ends to put it all together for final.

what kind of s/s are you using and what size piping? Does your downpipe go inside of the framerail along the crossover. it doesn't
seem like there's a lot of room between the rail and trans/motor. have any pics of that?

its scgedule 10 weld els and the down pipe is 3 1/2" i cut into the firewall/floor pan to make ample clearance for it but im happy with how it came out.. you can barelyyyyy notice it from the inside with it all patched back in.
(its welded sheetmetal with seam sealer, and sound deadener on it)
