Default Can a TH350 survive an 8.6X 1/4 mile pass at 3800# in turbo car?

So I have this TH350 with RMVB and TBrake. It has alto red clutches, JW HD sprag/drum assembly and a BE brake. Everything else is stock in there.

Looking to max out my setup Sunday at a track rental that we are having. Weather drunk is calling for epic racing conditions. 68ish for a high with clear sunny skies at sealevel.

This transmission doesn't owe me a thing. It has hundreds of 9 sec passes and 4 8.9 sec passes. Many many 1.3X 60's and wheel stands. It is a freak of nature. But I'm a realist.

Does the TH350 live to see Monday?

What brand of Transbrake are you running? TCI? Hughes?
I'm going to add one to my Century Built TH350 but would like some feedback on which one you guys like.

I've seen a friend beat on his TH350 unmercilessly but it never gave up
It was first in a '70 454 nova running a dual stage 250 NOS kit. A wheelstander on every leave where he had traction.
THen he put it in his '93 Fbody running both a Vortech and NOS. I don't know whom built/groomed it but it was/is a great transmission.

I remember Tuff was running one for a long time. I don't know if he still is, but he clicked off a 7 second pass not too long ago. If your transmission can or not is simply a matter of hitting the track. An easy solution would be weight reduction.

This transmission is a freak. I broke the input shaft where it goes into the main drum once but that was because I bumped the transbrake while driving down the road at 40 mph.........with drag radials on. Fortunately there was no one behind me. I didn't think that it was supposed to work in 3rd gear but it was an accident.

The transmission was built by a local guy named Doug. He builds alot of the fast old school transmissions around here. The converter is FTI.

The tbrake is a B&E unit. I think that that may be the only reason that this thing has survived this long. From the first day that I got this transmission, the transbrake hasn't been 100%. What I mean is that no matter what stall converter I run, it pushes thru the transbrake at about 3800 RPM. The car will just start rolling forward as if there isn't enough reverse line pressure or something to hold it back. So I never leave any harder than that although my suspension and the track could take more. This seems to limit my 60's to about 1.31's.

I would love to verify that and if so, find out what guts he is running in it.

I'm suprised it's lasted this long... With your weight it's hard to say if it will make it. It will probably be a planet or the input shaft if something does go. Good luck!

Are you thinking of going with a th400 for next year or try and see what the th350 will do with the transbrake at a 100% first?

Whatever happens please be safe. From what I recall you don't have a cage in this car.

WHAT????? No cage???? I'm sure this can't be true. If you don't have a cage you have ********* of titanium.

I hope it lasts until you at least get an 8.60 timeslip. Good luck!

I'm not sure. Ideally, I'd like a bad *** 4L80.

Street cars don't have roll cages.

As much as I'd love to show off my titanium *********, it's not as brave as it sounds. I don't fight the car down the track and I lift if ANYTHING doesn't feel right. If you see my 8.9 passes, they all look very boring. The car goes straight as an arrow and the track prep is always there for me or I wont go down the track. I also wont make a full power pass right after a clean up. I know, I know, none of that replaces a cage but I'll be fine.
