I take it you didn't put in the softer spring that came with it, like most others do lol

Think I'm going with the Melling 10296. Does everyone run it as is, or change springs? Whatever pump that I had before had 50-60psi at idle and 80+ at wot, which is what I'm looking for I guess....or will that suck pan dry?

I've never heard of lots of people wanting less oil pressure?

I've never heard of people wanting to take a loss of HP with minimal benefits and extra stress on the pump (especially since the OP just had an oil pump seize on him ). Seen cases of the o-rings being blown out on oil filters when pressure gets to high, and on the sbc's, the oil galley plugs being blown out. You only need enough volume/pressure to maintain an adequate oil film

The melling 96 comes with a high pressure spring and a standard pressure spring. The standard pressure spring necessarily doesn't effect volume. My oil pressure gauge "pegs out" at 150psi, THAT is to high of oil pressure.

TSP ported ls6 here. bout 50psi idle when its nice and hot, 60psi cold. WOT its always at 80psi. i think its perfect because of whats said above, i dont want things sucked dry.

you need 10psi of oil pressure for every 1000 rpms your turning, so roughly 70 or 80 should be tops, and FWIW ive seen oil filters burst, as in pop and spew....

tsp ls6 ported and shimmed, turbo on a factory longblock 98 with 150k on the ticker lol

great choice i might be a little bias though. On a cold start it holds about 65 psi and hits almost 80 on a WOT. Good luck
