6speed Turbo cars with 4.11's question
Ive got 4.11 gears in my moser 9 inch right now because i was using them on my forged LT1 with the F1A. Well now ive got a gen 1 ptk turbo kit for the lt1 that has the turbo mounted in front of the engine. I am going to run a MP gt45 for now (.68, 1.05) and was wondering what this car will act like with a 6speed and 4.11s..ill eventually change them out when i get more money..i was thinking it may be hard to spool it in 1st gear, but with that little .68 on there wouldnt it spool up ok? Just curious..

First gear goes by in a flash with 4.11's, I really doubt you'd see full boost in 1st. Same with all the other gears too, the car goes through the gears so fast that you may spend more time shifting and less time actually building boost.
I'd swap back to 3.42's eventually, then you should have full boost even in 1st gear.

You will be shifting.. A LOT!
with a .68 a/r and a small exhaust wheel you won't make much power over 5000 rpms because of back pressure.
I had 4.10s in my car when I first got it and was only running 6psi and 6spd. It sucked bad and I lost almost every street race when I had to shift from 4-5.

Yea ill prolly go with 3.50's..but it cant be THAT bad driving a 6speed turbo car around...yea i realize autos are allways better for racing but this is a street car..so someone tell me that driving a 6 speed 700 whp turbo car isnt fun..i just dont see how it could be that bad. With some slicks and a 2 step arent people running pretty fast with that?

its not THAT bad. its just the fact that you have to shift which causes lose boost between shifts, so in a way your car is slowing down. in an auto you wont lose boost once its fully spooled until you lift off the gas.
so if you just like rowing gears and dont care about all out potential going as fast as you can with your setup, then stay with the 6spd. If you wanna be more consistent and have a better shot at winning races go with an auto

as for the original question, the 4.11's and 26" tires will be pretty much pointless. you wont hit full boost til probably 3rd gear and when you do itll be hard to manage cause youll have to shift so fast and run outta rpm in fourth before the race is even fun. fwiw i run 3.70's and 28" tires and think its pretty much perfect for my setup

unless you shift like a vag you dont lose boost between shifts. yes an auto will be more efficient and stay in the meat of the power band longer, but if you can keep the trans together you can go fast with a 6 speed. now i dont consider my car fast compared to a lot of FI cars but ive been luckier that most with a 6 speed at my et/power level but i dont plan on taking it out anytime soon

Its not as fun as driving around a 503/509 car. I had more fun when I was making 503whp than when I was making 733whp. And im guessing next year ill have even less fun with another 300 or so haha

HThe 411 gears top 4th at about 110..it was fun on the streets but sucked when trying to go fast in 5th..it'd be better with 28 inch tall tires but again who rolls around on the street with 28 inch slicks (I would if I had some haha)..I think 3.42's are going to be you're best bet tho but I'm changing my 411s for a reason..

Out of those 2 i would go 3.90.... I have 4.10s and while they are fun they are pretty much useless! Im running 25.5 in tire too! FWIW im going with a 3.73
