My 1.25 a/r S380 87mm turbine wheel rear mount turbo literally spools in just under 1/2 the time of normal and I could adjust it to spool faster, but I already had surge issues sometimes from spooling so damn fast.

http://www.streetfire.net/video/new-...ipi_739094.htm

Boost gauge shots in that video from 3000 rpms and 18" vacuum to 15psi.

Drag strip I was leaving at 3300 rpms, 5psi boost on the two step and had 15psi at the 10' mark. My setup lived on that spool valve because of the 2.75 gears and 28" tires, made the car feel super responsive because it was in boost before you could even floor the pedal.

Twin S380's with spool valves on a 408.... geez, that's just scary to think about. I could heads up race anyone at the track an never worry about staging because it took about 1 second to get 5psi on the trans brake/2step setup at 3300 rpm. Just watch the tree and don't worry about anything else.
Zombie, your car is sick man... Thanks for all your data on rearmounts..

It is too bad that that business called from Performance Metal Works went belly up... The owner was selling these for the right price.

back to the topic at hand, i would be happy to spend some money on a spool valve if i had the extra money on hand. this would be one of the last few upgrades i get for the end of my turbo build. I did come across it on ebay finally. WIsh i could buy it but its out of my price range and order as of now.

Now im not going to get into the cost war casue that doesnt acomplish anything other then a flame war that i had to dig through to get to this part of the thread. ridiculous in all honesty.
All of you should know the first new product of any buisness will be marked up higher then most would like. Look at the Xboox 360 when it first came out, $400 plus when it first came out. now you can get a custom one with games, extra controller, head set and free xbox live for a month for that price. look at plasa screens when they first came out. you couldnt find a 36" under $2000. now you can get 55" LCD flat screen for $999 if its sale time.
The point is new products bring new product prices. get over it. on top of it, some one posted exacty what this is. a specailty needs item that isnt on a constant order status. If you can make your own go for it, but dont give the guys a hard time who made it about the price cause you cant afford it. O can afford it at the moment and yes i would LOVE if they brought the price down to $200-250 level, but that isnt gonna happen anytime soon. So bitching about it aint gonna fix it. thats a toddlers mentallity "i cant have it so im gonna whine about it" I deal with that with my 3 year old son enough. Get over it. Lets get backk on topic.
Are there any updates on these spool vales? Aplication changes? power stages? info info info! lol

ebay is about the only other place ive seen then at $450. making them TECHNICALLY speaking shouldnt be that hard. a divided flange, shaft and plate put together with some sort of pressure actuated diaphram to control it all. a flange would be about $100ish for quality SS divided flange. some kind of high stregnth shaft that can withstand high heat and cooling cycles. the blade will have to be able to do the same. mild steel would rust too fast risk having somthing go throught the turbo so S. Steel would be the start point. Polished to reduce drag and increase airflow threw. tight tolerances on the shaft, probably pressed ball bearing to have smooth rotation and to seal between the shaft and flange. im not sure how the big boys make it but to properly seal with out leaking this is what i would do if i were to fab my own. the actuator would be the easiest i assume. you could use an internal wastgate style actuator to control the butterfly plate. ..... and with all that i would just pay for a new one myself lol $450-550 range isnt too bad once you look at it from that angle lol
assunming you buy brand new quality Stainless steel items
flange $100ish
shaft $15-30
plate $20-40
actuator $50-100
tooling $free- 100ish maybe depending on if you have the tools or work at a shop

so as you can see its not that much cheaper to build it yourself and i didnt even mention the time it takes you to make this thing which if your like me, my time is pricless lol
i myself am choosing to buy one later.

Woa thread digging lol... most diesel big rigs have qsv's and they work for their intended purposes. However not many vendors offer QSV's cheapest one I seen is six hundred.

^^^^ agreed on spending on something else with that "small" of a turbo. It pretty similar in size to my ON3 T76. if you want to spool it a but faster, a smaller turbine housing to get it to spool faster. a .81 or if you can get a custom smaller one to get it to damn near insta-spool. That or get a smaller turbo or go twin. If you go bigger then a spool valve would be a benefit. unless your an all out racer, spool valves a lot to invest in initialy. wrap your pipes, turbo, and gears can effect your boosting. My rearmounted T76 doesn't spool until about 3000rpm which is fine cause my car has a 3200 stall and 2.73 gears and I break traction when it kicks into 2nd lol I couldn't image the car having full boost in 1st and trying to drive it like a sane person lol
