Default Critique my FI plan :)

OK my $2000 Blower project (well not counting my headers) If I'm getting anything wrong or if you have suggestions PLEASE let me know!!!

First the Powerdyne blower kit- $650+a set of springs

3 fans, Jrios's old setup should take care of cooling- $175

42# Bosch injectors from Na$ty TA- $210

Programming from James at running with the Devil (Predator program)- $360

Walbro Intank pump from LS1speed - $125

Custom discharge\intake tube with K&N cone filter- $95

Katech belt tensioner - $130

Dyno time - $200

Thats a total of $1945!!!

I'm going to install the headers and blower+components get a mail tune from James. Then take it to a wideband with a dyno and see how close it is. IF it is close enough the dyno time might be less I get 3 pulls with a wideband for $50. If its not close enough James does free updates until we get it right

Next winter I will install alky\water injection and hopefully LS1edit will have a competitor with a tuner\data logger like HP. Get the 9# pulley and go for a little more.

My goal with the first part is to get about 410-420rwhp and low low 12's in the quarter on Nittos.

So what do all you FI gurus think Am I crazy? Forgetting something? Doing something stupid that I will have to change later?

From the ones I seen, the Powerdyne is not going to go very far for you. At best I think they only put in about 4psi. Thats not much at all.
Good luck.

OK, I've talked to a few guys that have gotten more than that out of it. with the 6# pulley they are getting close to that with a custom intake, the intake that comes with the kit is a JOKE maybe good for a Toyota or something. Then with the smaller pulley they are getting a max of about 8#'s....

I think my power goals are fairly reasonable with long tubes, what I'm mostly worried about now is fuel\programing.

I also understand the limitations of the powerdyne kit. This one is practically new and I figure when its time to really step up I can sell if for a 1000 and get an ATI setup. I'll already have the fuel system\and fans for it....

I was going to go the cam route as well and understand why that is often considered a better option.. But one of my goals when I sold the 93 and got this car was to have a NICE driver. Something that isn't crazy loud and lumpy (although that is COOL as hell). I wouldn't call my car a sleeper but my wife can drive it just fine and I'd like to keep it that way (she never does but if one day she gets a hair up her *** I really can't stop her). Also emissions are a concern in my area as well. I do see a smaller stealth II cam installed in the future to help with total power..

I guess I don't want critique of my blower choice I know that Powerdyne is the ghetto blower on the LS1's. BUT where else are you going to get that kinda power for 650? I guess its 3000 with the headers and all extras, but that is still cheaper than a top end kit\headers with programming as well. My goal is specific I know I'm not THAT far off. Sure I'll want more later. But that happens no MATTER WHAT YOU DO to it So I'm sticking with the Powerdyne for now and just want to know if my plan is sound? Is the fuel enough? Should I put the alky\water on right away etc....

Thanks!

Bobby

My opinion on the powerdyne is the same as CAT3's, but if your not looking for big boost you should be fine. Good luck, keep us posted!!

your plan is right on target.

you should see 410-420 with the 6# pulley and if you pulley up with the smaller pulley to overdrive the blower about 470 and broken internal belts every so often

for those that don't know Jrios put down 478rwhp with 8psi with the powerdyne. I was making 430 with 5.5psi, so decent #'s are indeed attainable using the "ghetto" ls1 blower

oh and I would add the water/alky right away. since the pd is not intercooled you will only be able to run 15-16 degrees advance without it.
with it you can crank it up into the 20's and really wake up the car.

I would agree with Blackbird and install the water/alky now. That way if and when you decide to go with the 2.9" pulley you are already setup.

With a set of headers and a good tune your car oughta be right at 400 to the wheels WITHOUT the blower, I would HOPE that you could do 410-420 with any kind of blower setup. 02 WS6 6 speed with a cam? Am I reading that right? Good driver oughta get that down to low 12's I'd shoot for more if thats the correct car you're putting the kit on

Nope no cam yet. Its an 01 6pd that will have a Kook LTs with ORP, stock WS6 exaust, PD kit, Alky injection, programming and that is it for now. I will probably install a stealth II cam (something like that) next winter with some good springs and titanium retainers and the smaller pulley go for 450rwhp-460rwhp. I think that will be the most I'll get out of the PD.....

sounds good.

Im working on a similar low budget setup, but with a vortech.

$650 Vortech V9 G trim,
$35 brackets.
$500 fuel system (42# injectors, 98 racetronix 255 setup, fuel pressure gauge)
still need to fabricate some stuff, and need parts from vortech, but total will be around 3K max.
hp tuners, shared 3 people 166 each
wideband - free

LOL Thats probably what I'm going to step up to is a similair setup or I'll bug Jrios on his ATI setup But hopefully I can just enjoy this for a few years and get the rest of the car dialed in like the Rear end and suspension. We'll see....

it should be fine for awhile.

the powedynes get a bad reputation, because most people overspin them as they get boost greedy.
