Default pics of oil return to front timing cover

I did a search and found 2 pictures of people tapping to their front timing cover for oil return. My question is what size of fitting and can you/did you remove the front cover to do this? Any other pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Is this easily removed and installed while still on the car? Or do you have to jack the motor up a bit to get it off?
