Default 80 Trans Am 6.0 Turbo

Once I get my motor I am about to start on my turbo kit, what do you guys think of this set up so far? What can be changed to lower the price or provide better efficiency and reliability? Shooting for 500rwhp.

Also how about this 5.3? $700 with standalone harness.. Good for boost? The lq4 I found was $600 and needs gaskets and accessories, worth it?

The 5.3 sounds like a pretty good deal. If you don't want it wheres it at?

Reliably? Honestly the most it will ever see is a romp on the gas every time out. Does my parts I put together look good for this motor?

I originally planned a nearly identical build and from my research, 500 rwhp safely was a modest goal.

Aside from pulling the motor - nothing. I decided to stick with the LS1 (at no fault of the 5.3), my original plan just started snowballing out of control so I had to reel it in a bit. I did a good bit of research and you have a pretty solid setup so you should be good.

Some of the guys here have used e85 and put down some real impressive numbers...something to consider if youre planning pump gas or methanol...to speak to your price or efficiency question.

You're going to need injectors, ls6 intake, boost referenced fuel pressure regulator, probably going to need to relocate your alternator, a good boost controller wouldn't hurt either (like an eboost2)

Ok thanks, after a ton of research I have it planned out but the only thing I am wondering is, where does the wastegate and BOV go? Sorry I am new to this lol.

Wastegate will go somewhere on your hotside plumbing, the blowoff valve on the cold side somewhere before the throttle body.

First I would go with a T76 over a MPT70, but since all you want is 500hp then just stick with the MPT70. The LQ4 has stronger rods then the LQ9, plus the compression is lower in the LQ4 (if my memory serves me correct). In all honesty I would just pick up the 5.3 have fun with it. There are countless amount of people that have slapped turbos on them and move out.

Not saying I wouldn't like more power but the real limit for me is reliability. I have mapped the budget out for the whole car and it seems I will be pretty much dead even on cash with setting for a future transmission upgrade.

How should I fuel this beast? A 255 walbro? Someone also mentioned a racetronix setup.

since your goal is only 500, im guessing you are wanting to run a low amount of boost? If so i would get a bigger wastegate

Dual in tank walbros
minimum 60lb injectors
boost referenced regulator
fuel rails
-8an feed and -6an return
upgraded dual valve springs-even just for boost
cam
hardened push rods
upgraded timing chain
upgraded oil pump
arp head studs
arp rod bolts
front mount intercooler
eboost2 boost controller
wastegate
bov
minimum ls6 intake
relocate alternator
most likely solid mounts so you don't melt the poly mounts
pt-88mm turbo will get you your 700rwhp

you can't just get the bare minimum and have unrealistic goals. You have to get a ton of ****.

I don't think half that is required if 500 RWHP is all he is shooting for.

If you re-read, he said 700rwhp. For a boosted application, you pretty much need all of it anyways. Or you can half *** it and re do it over and over. Your choice though.
