Default 5.3

im building 5.3 - boring it to 3.89 using MAHLE pistons and scat rods and stock crank ----im using 2 precision 5557 turbos -- i got the entire 5.3 coils acces and all for $350 and rods and pistons for $715.00 -- bought the pistons used but never used still in plastic and rods new ---im going to pump 15 pounds of boost and hopefully push my stock weight gn into the 9s --- the engine will be in the machine shop next week to get cleaned and bored

What kinda compression would you want on a motor like this for 20psi 80mm turbo and 4500lb race weight?

Extra to mill the heads to desired compression?

bringing this back to life to ask Frasher 2 questions...

is this still a valid price on this shortblock?

and what would the cost be to bore the 5.3L block to a 3.90 bore and do the shortblock that way?

Back from the dead.. Are you still offering these? With my class limited 76mm non billet wheel turbo, i'd really like the smaller cubes to take advantage.

Will this short block support 800-900hp or would it need additional options to handle that kind of hp? I wouldn't be worried about a stock crank, but the rod bolts and rods may be a problem?

have you read ANY of the threads in the FI section. They are supporting that stock for quite a while, much less forged by a major sponsor!

Go for it!

I think it could support 800-900 but I think you won't get them to rate that high. Too many variables on making it run safely. You need good gaskets a thicker deck head and a good tune. And it all depends on your combination that you add to this.

What's the wait like for 1 of these short blocks and are they still building them? They only have the 390 on their website.

This 3.83" bore block Fraser is talking about will make you a 333" engine. I don't see 13 cubic inches being worth the loss of some wall strength in a forced induction motor. If you feel like you are missing some power with the smaller motor you can turn up the boost since the thicker cylinder walls will take it!!

Fraser, Im going to have to give you a call soon. I have been set on your 390 for a while for my upcoming build. But now with talk of this 5.3 and the option for a 370 im overloaded with great choices! I will give you a shout for guidance based off of my needs.

Fraser doesn't work for them full time anymore. Only some nights every now and then. You're better off talking to one of the other guys.
