Default motor internals?

hey guys ive been looking around for good internals for a ls1 block and im not sure what to get and where to go to purchase them. kinda need to know soon cause im in school and my project is to have a total motor rebuild. i dont want to get shafted on priced but i know i wanna make around 850 rwhp. im not sure if i can use any of my stock stuff like the heads if they get machined and all. my teacher says i can use stock heads and block, all i need is the right internals and i can do it easy. i donno if he is right or not cause he talks a lot. any help would be great. oh also im thinking that the ratio to be a 8.5:1 and also wanna run like a 83mm turbo. if anyone can help that would be great.

Stock crank should work fine for you. I'd get compstar rods, and wiseco or diamond pistons. I would not recommend stock heads for 2 reasons- 1) they are not good for getting your desired compression, and 2) the deck is not that thick to be making that kind of power with. Even if you got stock casting 317 (or 035) truck heads, the deck is not ideal for a ton of power. Get an aftermarket head with a thicker deck. Also, 8.5 is a little low. I'd shoot for 9.0~9.5 scr. Dont forget to get a good cam and valvetrain too.

You dont recomend stock heads for 850whp?? Sure it would be ideal to buy the baddest and best stuff out there but for the amount of power he posted that hes looking for I see nothing wrong with stock heads....been done several times on here....with ease. I'd listen to his teacher.

My new setup should be aiming for about the same power level. Probably going to use all stock internals except rod bolts.... stock heads also.
Unless i can find a deal on some pistons and rods... im a cheap ***..

Ive dealt with enough pushing water in the 650 rwhp range with stock style heads to not recommend them, so yes, I stand by my statement. Show me a list of those people who have done it "several times on here" at 850rwhp. I can think of a few at most, and I guarantee they are pushing the envelope. But hey, if you like changing head gaskets, be my guest

Well you know what I am going to say. I would not put 850 on a cast crank, I know plenty of you are doing it... just my 2 cents. Insurance now, for when you want bump it up later!

GM 6.0L MLS gaskets with ARP studs. About 12-14psi on a LS6 347 with a P1SC.

When (ok, "IF") I ever get to build an LSX 6 bolt engine, I'm going with the dragonslayer crank for sure

K-1 rods and Wiseco turbo duty pistons here. They sell this combo I think on Wisecos site.

Good luck finding pistons to get you into the 9.0-9.5 range with a 382 setup. That was the problem I had a few years ago when researching a shortblock for my P1 at the time. You will find better options if you go with a 346 or 370.. You really need to do a lot of research with LS FI. Lucky you, you are on the right forum for that though Just use the search button my friend

at that power level the stock crank should be fine. There are very few you EVER hear of breaking even beyond 1000rwhp.

If you have the coin get some better heads. If not run whatever factory head will get you to over 9:1+ compression. The TFS as cast thick deck heads are around $1600!
