i put a solid roller in my car, biggest pain in the *** ever.. its got a set of AFR 225's on it and getting a spring that would work and fit in the head was not going to happen so we had to machine the heads to take a 1.550 OD spring, then they hit on the rockers so had to machine the rockers to clear the springs..

yep it will be better when we start to rev a little more but i cant tell if the power is up or not as anything over 1100rwhp it just smokes the tyres on the dyno..

I had a solid roller in a SBC a few years back.. adjusted it once, locked it down with a stud girdle and it stayed. All depends on how you lock them down.

Read: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...osted-lsx.html

It'll give you an idea on what to look for in springs.

how much seat pressure do they have??
probably only 130-140lb?

depending on the cam you might need more like 200lb + on the seat..

i was running a 265@50 hydro cam with some manley dual springs with 140lb on the seat and it was fine,

the solid is 275@50 and now have 210lb on seat and its working ok but wont know for sure until we put some more runs on it..

one of the ski race boats i built runs a solid roller with 280@50 and we run 310lb on seat..

are they adjustable??

if they are not then they are useless...

sounds like you would be better sticking with a hydro setup

The first part of your statement isn't correct:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...alvetrain.html

... But the second part is. If you don't know what it takes to get it setup you should look towards a hydraulic setup.

everytime you need to adjust your rockers you have to machine new shims... **** that... lol

It sounds like you are out of your league on this one...

no way would I run a spring designed for a hyd roller on a solid setup. my solid roller had 300+ on the seat and 700ish open if I remember right.

at a MINIMUM you need to have your spring pockets opened up for a large spring and run shaft rockers...

this is what a properly setup solid roller valvetrain looks like

Not disagree'n

But how come when they used to run solid roller valvetrain/combos they never used shaft rockers ?

Also what benefit's besides Higher RPM do you gain by running a solid Roller ?

I would like to run a solid roller set-up in the future

old school setups had adjustable rockers....factory LS motors are fixed rockers. if you're going through the trouble to get a new rocker setup, might as well go shaft for increased valvetrain stability

higher rpm and more aggressive lobes can be used due to increased spring pressures for increased power (high spring pressures will collapse hyd lifters)
