Newbie looking to build 800+ HP engine needs help
Hi there, don't know if this is the right place for this or not, but hopefully some one know where I can get help if not.
Well here it goes, looking to build a twin turbo high revving LS1 or LS6 for a Ultima project, the engine should make at least 800rwhp and be able to rev at least 8000 rpm but looking for 10000rpm. Also interested in the ZR-1 engine if it can be modified to those specs, also I want an engine as light as possible. Does anyone here have the knowledge to help me with this or know where I can look for this help.
Thanks Micael

dont know if you'll be able to build an ls1 revving to 8k due to the fact that you'd probably need to go solid rollers w/tripple springs and the knock censors wouldnt like the valve lash, I could be wrong, if your trying to rev to 10k lets just say thats about the maximum for any 350 ci engine possible, maybe an older style 350 w/ an efi set up would work better, but then again how much $$$$ do you have to spend? check some places like agustino racing and places w/ a 427ci LS1 style engines, I'm sure a twin turbo on a forged 427 would give you well over 800hp w/ out going to 8k rpm and damn would that be a kick in the ***
Any reason why you want to rev your motor to 10k, so you could have a higher reving engine than your friends S2000 or Mazda RX7 or RX8, or Acura NSX ?? These LS1, LT5, LT1 LS6 motors are really not capable of those rpms and you've lost your peak RWTQ long before that in the rpm band, why bother to wrap it out to 10,000 rpm. Again anything is possible, and if you want to be the first to attempt a 800 + RWHP 10,000 rpm motor V8 Street Driven Car. Cool. But with those rpms your motor won't last very long. If you really want a higher reving motor. Solid rollers, and smaller displacement, will help to get you there. Good Luck..

no this is not the engine for that...10,000rpm?
the ultima is meant for a chevy v8..one of the reasons for this is that it doesn't need those revvs, aka it doesn't need to make that high an "effort" to make 800 hp for example, (specially a turbo).
something like 7500RPM is more realistic, why try to take a pushrod engine to 10k rpms?
i think even DOHC turbo stangs with over 1000hp don't rev to 9k even..why would they.
Maybe you should try a destroked LT-5 , the lotus esprit turbo used a version of this.

Why specifically are you looking for such high RPM's? It will not be difficult at all to get that sort of power level (expensive... but not difficult)... But you wouldn't need to rev to 10K to do it. I would give LG motorsports a call. Their engine packages are put together by one of the best/most reputable builders of road racing small block chevy engines. (Virtually every GM engine currently running in the Trans-am Series is built by the same man.) And they have done a lot of development work on LS6 engines for road racing (specifically daytona prototype and world challenge)... so they will definitely know how to get the engines to rev... but even then they are probably going to advise not to rev the engine nearly that high... As for the forced induction... it isn't until recently that we have had any half decent turbo kits, or widespread use of DFI/FAST computers... so there hasn't been a whole lot of development... You might want to look at companies that build LSx series engines for sand rails as they have been using stand alone computers and turbos for years on these engines.. and their headers might actually work with the mid engine layout in the Ultima. I'd definitely be curious to see your plans with your car though.. the Ultima's are beautiful. The driver of the Trans-am series car I crew for was one of the drivers of the Ultima that K&N fielded in the Daytona 24 Hours in 2002. And the Crew Chief for that program was also the crew chief of our trans-am team this past season. Hopefully I helped some. If you have any more questions that I might be able to help you with, you can e-mail me at XJGPN@aol.com.

Thanks guys, well I don't really plan to rev it to 10K, just wanted to know if it was possible, 8-8500 rpm is more what I'm looking for, guess the LT5 is what I'm looking for then. Another plus for the LT5 is the 4v per cylinder, so let me hear from you guys why I should go with pushrods insted, i guess it would be lighter, don't know the weight of the LT5, anyone that knows????
Also if I would go with the LT5 what power levels could I see without giving up a leg and an arm
, what hp could I get out of the LS1/LS6 is 800 hp possible without to much money or do I have to look at other block's from companies like Dart??
Thanks for every thing so far.

Builting up a LT5 I would think would cost you almost 50% more money than a LS1 or LS6, Roughly make the same power and close to the same rpms.. I would think building up those Lotus LT5 motors would be expensive!!!

A few comments:
LT5 is like a $10,000 crate motor with stock internals. If you build one for boost plan to spend another $3000 to change pistons, bearings, rods, rings.
LS6 based motor will be cheaper in the long run and make more power.
To build an LS6 to buzz to 8500 rpms you might need a solid roller setup and/or look into running titanium valves to reduce the weight of the valvetrain.

Some people just don't understand (or are dreaming)when they want to make 800 h/p with any type of rpm the kind of money it takes to do this.
First the engine itself to be able to use twin turbos is at least 8-10k easy. Then when you ad the money needed for twin turbos(turbos, plumbing, headers, etc.)your looking at another 6-8k easy. Then can your car plant 800h/p to the ground? Well be ready to spend some more money for transmission, suspension, fuel system, etc. ad another 4-5k easy.
If you got it, then spend it.

Well it seems like a lot of people around here don't understand english at all, I know my english is not perfect, but what I asked is it possible or not, if that's to hard to get for some people why do they even come with their stupid comments. I thank all the people that have given me the answers that I need, that it would be impossible to reach 10K, but that 8-8500 RPM's could be possible, and yes I know that it will cost some money to do this, but I don't wanna spend more than $20000 to do this, I know that with $50K+ I can get 10K rpm and 1500HP, I don;t have that kind of money and don't need and want that kind of power.
So if you can help me please do so if not and you just wanna complain, just shut the **** up.

If you got your head out of your *** and did a little research you wouldn't be in the forced induction section of THIS (pushrod LSX) board asking how to get 10K RPM from your engine.
This level of igrorance indicated that you are either
1. about 15 or 16 years old
2. mildly retarted

20 grand might be enough, depends on how much you can do yourself.
I've spent over that on my twin-turbo project if you include the drivetrain. My car does'nt even run yet. In about a month it will need to have the dfi installed and the car tuned. I'm expecting another 4-5K bill then too.
I'm hoping to make that kind of power, but I'll probably only rev to 7k max.

I don't see how that was an answer to my question, on a TWIN TURBO , (I do believe TURBO is forced induction), LS1/6 being able to do what I asked, and if I knew I wouldn't have asked and if I found the information I wouldn't have joined this forum, and no I'm not 15-16, but I believe that you got to be under 10, because I believe that reading came in before that, so why don't you just do as I told you to and Shut the **** up &

Well I don't count the cost of the gearbox in to the $20K, but if needed I might concider another $5K, to get the engine to what I want but $25K is the limit, I could get it cheaper with a 4.6L Ford engine, but they are wider and heavier, so I don't really know what to do, cheaper ford, lighter LS1/6. does anyone have the dimensions on the LS1/6.
