Default Did I make the wrong choice going with an LS6 cam?

So I ordered an LS6 cam from a member here and I'm starting to have second thoughts about whether I should use it or go with another cam.
I did a head swap last year and already have dual valve springs on the heads, so the only thing I'm going to change over right now is the cam.
After the cam the plan is to procharge the thing... but I'm starting to think I am leaving a lot of power on the table by not going with a bigger cam.
At the same time I'm supercharging a stock shortblock with 90k on it...

Should I sell the LS6 cam and go with something else? If so, what?
Or should I stick with the LS6 cam supercharge the car and build a new block that can handle more power before I throw a bigger cam in?

I have some ideas as to what blower I want, but I'd rather hear some informed opinions as I have never dealt with forced induction before.

Power? 500whp is where I want to be, but I'd rather make less and have the engine hold together then more and risk it.
My budget is 5 grand, give or take.

I think the LS6 was the right choice then. If you were doing a budget forged bottom end, looking for 650-750rwhp then a different cam would help.

It is a nice mild cam for boost applications. There have been members here pushing big horsepower using it also. It has great drivability and a wide performance range.

Keep it. For 500 hp it's great. Hell you can make 500 on a stock cam without trouble.

If your leaving the bottom end stock The LS6 cam is ((thee)) perfect choice with the valve overlap that this cam has and will save the stock piston ring lands as this cam bleeds off some boost and is easyer on the pistons and rings and still will make great power and torque and is why its thee most popular cam for a stock FI bottom end. I too was going to use this same cam till i ended up just saying screw it; and built a forged block for my TT kit
You did good !Don't second guess yourself on this

Yes i am high tom! LOL Dam dude??? Im not a freaking cam expert here. Maybe i should have said the cam lob duration ? I dont know !!!!But the LS6 cam if you talk to freaking ((ANYBODY)) will tell you its a good freaking cam because it bleeds off boost and isnt as hard on the piston ring lands and if you do a search its a certain year LS6 cam that most shops recomend for FI with a stock bottom end . Why don't you post up the correct LS6 cam serial number for this guy with cam so he can compare to see if hes got the right LS6 cam here tom! Instead of jumping down my throat for giving my honest opinion here! Whats up your *** tonight Tom ?Theres diffrent year and spec LS6 cams from what i can remember from when i was going to install one about 5 years ago Tom. Sorry i dont remember, but now that youve freakin jumped down my throat here ill find out for the guy if you dont

Heres 3 that i found from a search that took me 1 minute Tom!
Ls6 Cam specs 204/218@.50 .550/.550 lift 117.5 LSA
LS6 Cam specs 207/217 @.50 .525/.525 lift 116 LSA
Hot Cam specs 219/228@.50 .525/.525 lift 112 LSA

LOL I do too,,
Now that he's got me worked up about it LOL
I know one of these LS6 cams is a good cam for a FI stock engine but cant remember its been so long ? Im pretty sure its the smaller lobed cam that will take the stock LS6 springs and something to do with the exhaust overlap too from what i can remember ?? I was going to use one along time ago till i just decided to build a forged engine and just bought a turbo cam for my build .Now that im thinking about it im pretty sure it had to do with the lift of the cam and not having to remove the head for the daul spring install. Im pretty sure it was 02 ZO6 cam that FI guys were using that did bleed off some boost in the higher RPM s and it just needed a LS6 spring upgrade for the stock LS1 heads, but if this guy all ready has the head done, he really doesn't need to go this route if he doesn't want to.But i know its a decent cam for a stock LS1 engine from what i can remember and from what alot of guys on here have said about it. Can he ((GET))a better cam? Sure, But is his cam garbage?Absolutely not if its the right LS6 cam. **** YOU TOM LOL Making me type all this **** with my 1 pecking finger lol

Default F/I Cam experts-Stick with LS6 cam or 224/230, 114 lsa for 346 forged LS6 D1Sc motor
Have a lead on picking up a decent blower cam COMP 224/230, 581/591 lift, 114 lsa, for a stock cubed forged LS6 blower motor I am planning to build for my ECS D1SC Procharger setup that will see between 10 and 12 lbs of boost.

If your a f/i cam expert you already know that a stock 02+ LS6 cam makes great power on and off boost and makes for an excellent cent. supercharger stock cubed blower cam.

I LOVE the low end torque that the stock LS6 cam makes off the boost for normal driving and of course it makes big power on boost; howerver, i prefer an aftermarket cam if its going to make sig. more power without the car feeling like a dog off boost. and don't mind the extra hot rod sound of the aftermarket cam.

QUESTION THEREFORE is: Do I just keep running my stock LS6 cam for the new forged LS6 blower motor or will the 224/230 cam, 114 lsa, 581/591 lift cam make sig. more power off boost and still not feel sluggish down low (off boost).

Question number 2: Will the stock LS6 cam make more torque down low off the boost stop light to stop light for normal driving vs. the aformentioned blower cam.

Question number 3: Is there another cam you recommend that will fit my goals for this motor which is max power on top on boost and not losing anything down low vs stock LS6 cam (off boost).

Thank you for informative reply!

The only thing I don't like about the cam, and I've seen with others too, is that it peaks around 5500, good if your worried about the stock bottom end but I like revving it a lil higher...

Other than that it's an awesome cheap boost cam

This is exactly what i just got done reading too from the search LOL Its just the stock engine thats killing this guy rpm wise with the cam choice. He might even have the wrong LS6 cam anyway? He needs to post the cam numbers or do a search himself to see what year LS6 cam he has. If its a 01 he needs to just buy another cam and take it as a learning piece IMO

A cam with half the lobes missing could still make that sort of power and a little boost.

stick with the cam. I made 618/695 on a stock 100k+ mile motor. 12 psi, mpt76,e85 and one cly. ready to give.. #7.. the car drove like it did before I turboed it.. if your only spending 5k your going to need to save where ever you can..

or sell it to me and I'll use it for my turbo lsx fox build..
