Check my build..am I an idiot or pretty close?
After reading and then reading some more, I think I am getting the jist of this crazy thing called turbocharging. I got 2 books that have helped alot both SA Design; How to Supercharge and Turbocharge GM LS Series and Turbo: Real World High Performance and of course this forum, theturboforums and ls1truck.
Vehicle: 85 Chevy Full Size truck 3800lbs(maybe a little lighter when I swap some stuff around)
Trans: built th400
Rear: Braced 9" w/Strange Center, Detroit locker, 35 Spline Moser and 3.50 gears
Usage: 85% street 15% strip(1-2 trips to the strip a month) 28" tall tire(DR for strip) will keep it under 6800 rpm. I want it to be reliable so I am not looking for 100% max effort. I would like to see between 6-800 rwhp and be able to run in the low 11s/high 10s
Ok here is my parts list for my turbo build:
6.0l Iron Block 4.030" bore
AES 390" Stroker kit 3.825" stroke, 6.125" rods, 4.030" CP piston -13cc, roughly 9.2:1cr
Pat G spe'd cam
317 heads(unported will upgrade to AFR later on)
Edelbrock Vic Jr w/6061.com elbow 92mm TB
I will be using the truck manifolds to build the turbo system.
Turbonetics tc78 turbo
TIAL 60mm Wastegate
TIAL BOV size?
I am thinking 2.5" hot side tubing and 3" cold side(too big?)
I will run it through an intercooler(I will have to measure the location to find out what size I can go with) Will I need meth injection too?
For the fuel system I will already have a fuel cell and a walbro 255 pump(or should I just go ahead and drop the coin on the A1000 now) The motor will be run N/A until I gather all the parts.
I want to run 8-10lbs on the street and then turn it up to 15lbs on the strip. Can this be done with the stock computer? Would I have to tune it to the higher boost setting or is there something I can do to switch between race and street tune?(don't know tuning yet) I am open to all suggestions on this build. the only thing that will be set in stone is the shortblock, everything else is up for suggestions.
So am I an idiot or does it sound like a good plan?

For that power the dual walbros would be more than enough. The A1000 always sounded like a low flying ultralight following me...lol.
Heres the pump running....when it pans to the back of my car. People were always like...WTF is that noise...lol. I even built a box to put it in and undercoated the inside to try and silence it down some.

I think that is the right video... I cant watch videos on my PC at work....lol.

I am not trying to insult anyones intelligence but are you using some sort of isolator mounts and it is still loud? I don't want to skimp on the fuel system at all so i want to make sure I get it right.

It won't be open, but hopefully it will still be loud! Thanks alot for the heads up on how loud they are. I am really leaning towards dual walbro 255s with a hobbs switch activating the 2nd pump. Are the Walbro 255s loud? On one of my older trucks I had a holley electric pump and it wasn't too loud, but that was on a carb set-up.

A1000 - If its more of a fun car, track car, or the car is somewhat loud it wont be bad... but definately not for a daily driver.
you can submerse the A1000's in the tank. I had thought about getting a second one for my nova and running 2 in the tank. That might quiet it down a lot. But after putting the twin walbros in my TA, and reading up on them... I think i'd just put 3 in my nova and do away with the A1000. Its been a really reliable pump, had it on the car for 10 years, through several engine combos.....never failed me....just loud.

I agree that the Weldons are WAY loud but they work well and seem to be the most reliable of the lot. The A1000 can be submerged in the tank which should quiet it down a good bit. I run a MagnaFuel which seems to be right in the middle across the board. LOL
OP, everything looks good. Just make sure to get a couple of opinions on the cam.

Well I have done some more research and I have changed my mind on the turbo. I am going to go with a st80, just need a little help on the details. Should I go with 83 or an 87mm turbine? 1.10 or 1.25 A/R?
