Default for a basic turbo setup..

basically ive done everything not engine related to my car so now im lookin at put some power down, looked into head/cams and all, main draw from them is it would kill gas mileage, have an 04 sierra with 2.5 stage heads and mid range cam, 6mpg : \ , so was lookin around and i know "o sts isnt great for huge HP turbo setups" but would it be worth the $4k for the bolt on STS kit for the trans ams if i just wanted to run say 5-7psi (what ever the safest highest i can go on stock engine) and just make 400-500hp (again what ever the highest is while still being safe) basically what these kits sound like there made for, wanted to know if i got the kit is it everything i would need minus tune for a basic setup and ready to go? and do yall see this as worth it for the power im lookin for? like this too cause i wanna keep my AC, this is my DD

Don't open this can of worms. Boost is not cheap or easy. Go with a matched cam, heads and exhaust package and save yourself a bunch of misery

until he get bored... if he wants boost now he'll probably want it later, and you'll save yourself money and time if you just do it now rather than changing setups.

I agree 100%.

Only problem with 5-7psi turns into 10-14 very fast lol. Do a front mount the first time.

agree'd. and the stock long block can easily do 525 to the wheels very safely, ~600 if you wanna push it.

If I could do it all over again I would have skipped the head / cam / intake / exhaust and gone straight to the turbo setup. But having all of the above makes it even better, not sure how much everything cost but I saved tons of money buying used parts and doing my own work. Small things do add up in price but if you have time to do the research you can have some pretty decent power / $$$. It's worth every penny though.

yeah im not tryin to make a "how to cheaply do a turbo set up" or "ifi buy a cheap sts kit what can i do" ive read abunch of forums simliar to the above topics, mainly i wanna know is, if i spend $4k or what ever the STS kit costs and then plus the tune, will i have a complete turbo kit and have a good running car? not tryin to do anything custom or anything were the money situation can get out of control, and i really wanna keep AC, and dont want to spend the money on a turbo cross member, why i was liking STS.

appreciate the replys

I wouldn't use the word "cheap" when talking about turbo set ups. I like to use affordable. If you're not looking to go all out then an sts would be fine. It basically will give you what you want. But i'd still do some research on it if I were you. Just to get knowledge about it.

You said you spent 20,000 on yours but you thought you would only spend 14,000 on it?
