Default 142mph on junkyard 5.3 .....

Since so many people complained about my rx7 being so light, I built a 5.3/76mm daily driver car to have some fun with and be a great sleeper. It's a 1985 ford LTD with 6 mufflers and weighs in at 3700lbs with a whopping 2.73 gear in the rear. It's just a driver, not a race car by any means. I drove it 3hrs to another city for their true street race and made a few passes, this was the first passes on the car ever then drove it home in the rain. I was running it on a small drag radial, 255/60/15 as the car won't fit a bigger drag radial.

10.09 at 139.97 mph on 17lbs BOGGING off the line when I left really soft, just a 1.71 60ft, just leaving on the footbrake. I tried to leave harder on another pass and it went 142mph, but 60ft wasn't good. We still haven't leaned on the car, still just conservative, I think we have around 100rwhp more to throw at it.(especially with it open downpipe vs the 6 mufflers and with it leaving on the transbrake and in boost) The motor had 100k miles on it when I got it and we have about 5k miles on it with the turbo and LOTS of hard street miles and racing.

Once we get the slicks on it and more passes leaving on the transbrake plus turned up it should get interesting. At least this time nobody can say it's a light "race car" (even tho I drove the rx7 over 5000 miles last year, it's a "race car"). Also this is thru some 3.5" procharger intercoolers, I need to get a real intercooler and/or some water injection, I was seeing 200+ IAT's!

We did hide the setup quite well, which confused A LOT of people at the track!

precision 76mm

The exhaust is 3.5" into a 3.5" cutout into dual 3" with 2 bullets right at the back of the transmission, two xr1's before the axle, two hooker maxflows after the axle, it's very quiet!

Hard to see in that pic, but the motor has stock manifolds facing toward the back of the car just like a normal n/a setup also.

I was at the track, and got a couple vids of this beast. It definitely confused a LOT of people after the first pass and they were crawling all around the car lol. Great job hiding stuff, pretty hard to spot the turbo!

And this was a stock 5.3 long block??? Wonder how long it would last like it is daily driving it with 10lbs of boost??? Im thinking of doing this when my stock ls goes bye bye. I guess its safe to say the 5.3 is as good as a 6.0 with moderate boost levels???

Looks good.... when I first built my mustang with the 5.3 it went 147mph on 18psi with a stock engine minus the cam/springs and rod bolts.

I'm hoping mine will go in that range with more passes and when we turn it up, but it's a heavy weight and the 2.73 gears and tight converter don't help it so we'll see.

I didn't really take many pics when putting the car together so don't have any of the turbo.
