Default Hotside ???

Hey guys, a buddy of mine is trying to do a budget build on his fbody and is wondering if anyone has used standart aluminized exhaust tubing for hotside? I'm not really sure as my projects have both been stainless. Is aluminized exhaust the same as mild steel, if not will it work? Thanks,

i used aluminized on my crossover and i would not use it again. it was more of a pain to weld (then again i am in now way an experienced welder)

personally i would do mild or stainless and skip the aluminized

It will be fine, just grind off the aluminization before welding. I used it on my Nova turbo kit and it worked good. Dont expect it to last forever, but I assume you know that.

Yeah, is the cost that much cheaper than mild steel? I guess I didn't really think there was a difference from exhaust pipe and mild steel. Everytime I have welded regular exhuast, it seemed to weld up nice.

Only differences is the coating, mild steel is about $1 cheaper a bend.

Use Mild, it cheaper and BUNCHES easier to weld. I have been welding for 4 years and hate aluminized, would do SS before it.

Of course your going to have problems if you try to weld over the coating.

Using mild steel wire on ss would be a total waste of ss material. Its just going to rust at the welds. Use a tig or pay someone, the welds will be much better.
