Default LQ4 or LQ9 for a Magnacharger mp112?

So I just bout a mp112 kit...

"mp112 kit. This kit is complete, it includes: blower, 42lb injectors, 90mm throttle body, magnavolt, intercooler, custom made resivour, kmember spacers, valley cover, coolant crossover pipe, etc. ..."

I was planning to buy an LQ4 for it (this is all going in my 1998 Z28) but friends were saying a positive displacement blower likes a little more compression and I'd be better off with an LQ9... Any input?

Money is tight so LS2 is not an option. I'm looking at LQ's for under $1500 that are low mile that I can just throw the blower on and drop in.

Most I would do is change the cam. Any thoughts on which motor, from the factory heads and all, is best for this set up? Thanks!

mark, hey this is josh... i think its going to depend on the amount of boost (and horsepower) you want.

I have enough spare parts to build you a LQ motor if youre interested..

if not, I would go with the LQ9 if you can find one... they are a little harder to come by

Those flowers are only good for around 575-600 aren't they?

Either would do but like stated, lq9.

Lq4 alot more common and cheeper.easier to come by than s lq9
Pull the heads, mill them .010, ls9 gaskets, ls9 cam. Since stock truck balancer gotta come off lq4 anyway. Ls6 springs or better.

LQ9 would be better Mark, as far as a cam the LS9 cam would be good for a budget, the EPP blower cam for a bit more money

oh and btw Mark, i would ditch the maganvolt and buy a KB bustapump or do a dual intank pump set up, mario can you help you on this

i have read where the magnavolt fails and there goes your motor

and yes Mark, as i told you, lq9 would be the best bet albeit harder to come by

edit:
Another magnavolt dead...
also if you are not banned from ls1gto lol i would ask there since a maggie is more popular with the goat guys

If you plan on running 10lbs or less I would say LQ9, and as far as the M112 goes anything over 12#'s and your really just heat soaking the motor and running out of blower to do any good. I'd go for a cam that has a nice exhaust split and a wide lsa as positive displacement blowers like and since it's a 6.0 you can get away with a little more duration than a 5.7 per say.

I love how nowadays close to 600hp is "only", lol! I remember in the LT1 days a 400hp car was INSANE and now an LS1 with a cam is there and factory cars are coming out with 500-600hp...

Anyways, yeah, I just like the look and instant power of the maggie and its simplicity. 550 is all I am really going for but f@ck it 600hp would be nice...

Oh, I have 1 7/8" SS Kooks and TRUE dual 3" exhaust...

So I need to reuse my LS1 balancer? Anything else? Will my acc. bolt up? I want to keep A/C...

yes you will need your balancer and yes the acc will line up fine. the kit is designed for the f-body acc

and you will have to drill the block for the alt bracket

but you a/c sux member lmao

I was planning on like 6#'s... Are there any power making, street friendly blower cams that still leave the car sounding cam'd?

I know it is a lame question but I've been running my F13 (Futral 230/232 on a 112+2) for years now and will miss the **** out of that sound of it loping through the true duals...

Thanks everyone!

I have a stock LQ block, crank, and rods. depending on how much you want to spend, you could pick up a set of forged pistons, ARP rod bolts, and slap a set of truck heads on it. that way it would be stout enough for more boost! youd spend more than your budget but it would be a lot more reliable having new bearings, rings, gaskets, etc.

or you could do all stock parts and new bearings, rings, gaskets and a light hone to seat the new rings... but if youre going through all that work, you might as well do some upgrades!!

Get a LQ4 and throw a set of used LS2 pistons in it. BAM, cheapo LQ9

but friends were saying a positive displacement blower likes a little more compression
A M112 is not a positive displacement blower. Its a standard roots. Your friends are thinking twin screw. That being said, truck guys are having good results from slightly higher compression under a roots. The cam is what will make or break your setup
