Yes I have done it on my own car.
Need to take quite abit of material off the pump and the timing cover to get enough clearence, but it can be done.
If you don't have any oil pressure issues, stick with an SLP pump or similar.
If you want the high volume mellings pump , convert to a heavy duty single chain set or be prepared for some dremel work.

Why, is there any difference in physical between the 10295 and 10296?

I have a 10295 on with a Manley double timing set and it fits fine without any grinding, uses the shims that came with the Manley.
...however, due to low oil pressure I'm switching to the SLP to see if its any better. You don't need to use the shims with the SLP pump because they are built into the pump.

Melling 10296 with the stock pressure spring installed (blue) and a Cloye's Single Chain. When I removed my TSP LS6 pump from my stock short block it had 2 aluminum spacers behind it to clear the Rollermaster Double roller chain.
