Default Our Turbo 5.3 and new stock bottom end record attempt (video)

We have had this truck for alittle over a year now with the same shortblock and just have slowly crept up on the power being thrown at it.

Putting alot of thought into the combo and tuning principals I use for max effort dragradial/10.5 cars this motor has lasted far longer than expected and went above even I expected and im sure most would expect.

The short rundown before the video...

2003 5.3 stock shortblock, 48k miles when we started in winter of 2009.
Stock rodbolts
Precision pt-88 turbo
125hp dry shot of nitrous, spraying on transbrake and thru the passes.
NO intercooler
25lbs of boost
Hp tuners and 18 deg of timing.

Heres the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq1YsaCdFYo

On the last pass before the truck got out of the groove it had a 1.30 60' and a 3.80 330' foot time. Well on its way to 5.80's or better in the 1/8th with a 10.5 tire, stock suspension and 3100 lbs.

we have run 25lbs of boost 10 times now, just getting the chassis sorted out is the next step.

Here is an older video of it running with a gt45 y2k 67mm ebay turbo last year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTV8QTIVYB0

I think our success comes from a set of stock 317 casting 6.0 heads on the iron 5.3 netting us 8.1 compression (even tho the bore doesnt match the chamber, we have seen no ill effects) allowing the 25lbs of boost with nitrous were seeing. plus COLD plugs, ngk #9's as well as c-16 fuel.

Forgot to add the Air inlet temps are -10 degrees when spraying infront of the compressor wheel at 15lbs of boost. If spraying after, into the charge-pipe, they are 70 degrees. Thusly no intercooler is needed.

Needs a little suspension tweaking Holy ***** that is nasty!

What head bolts are you using? Either way I'm extremely impressed!

How many passes on this motor since it's been in the truck?

Arp head studs. The 88mm is a dog turd without the nitrous, not enough compression nor exaust velocity even with a .96 a/r housing. Without the nitrous it is 4lbs of boost. With the nitrous we leave on 12-15lbs of boost.

The way I see it is, why not get aggressive? Some of the more serious cars that run high 5's in the 8th are spending the same amount of money for a custom grind cam core, as what we have in the entire longblock. We have 4 more shortblocks setting around the shop ready to go when this one blows. It just hasnt yet.

I think there is alittle more power to be had with an aftermarket ecu, just with some individual cylinder correction ect. I sell alot of Holley HP systems and were going to put one on truck here in the near future.

Counting actual pulls... street and track. Probably 100 passes

Got me thinking maybe I should get a 5.3 to get me back racing. My "built" 402 didn't last more than 30 passes at 15psi. At the price you can get these 5.3s for, I could have enough backups to last awhile

That was definetly a wild ride. You guys need to get the suspension figured out as it is looking a little dangerous on the big end.

The rear of the chassis is working pretty well given the fact were 60' 1.30-1.32 consistently. But! if you can watch the video above in slow-motion you can see the issue were having. And until I made this video lastnight even we didnt know what was going on (assuming it was a rear-end issue)

If you watch the launch in slow motion you can see a bad bump-steer issue. Which didnt arise until we started really throwing power at this chassis. HAHAHA, the truck will run 6.20's all day long. But turn it up to 5.80 territory, the issue reared its head

It will be fixed before the next time out thats for sure.

Just to answer some PM's The truck has a powerglide, transbrake, a PTC converter and we are running 3.08 rear gears. and yes its an Iron lm7 dished piston 5.3 with 6.0 heads. We wanted to run an lm4 aluminum dished piston motor but due to the combustion chamber size and the headgasket sealing on the outer edge of the steel sleeve we kept it all Iron.
