Default Diesel vs gas engine?

Could somebody explain to me why gas engines are able to run so much larger turbos than gas engines? For instance my brother just ordered a 62mm turbo for his truck and it is going to be on the large side for his truck until he gets even bigger injectors but almost every build I see on her is using a 78mm or larger turbo. Also what egt's do turbo gas engines usually run?

Diesels run way less RPM, 3500-4000 compared to 6500 That's a lot less air volume.

Thats why I tun an hx40 (16) and an ht3b (26) on my 3500 rpm cummins.......lol

I run a bit of fuel to it too though.

The reason for the op is that basically most people that have diesels, just get the "kit" set up and they themselves dont actually do anything themselves to their own stuff. They people that do it themselves, will find a way......the ones that dont.....get what makes the seller money and gives the buyer enough. Enough depends on the buyer, and now days, way more people dont test their rides then the ones that do, so enough on the but meter is pretty easy to achieve.

But both gas and diesel spool their turbos way before idle.
What about smaller displacement gas engines surely even with high rpms they are not moving as much air as a 5.9 cummins which is the smallest factory turbo diesel I can think of

massive compression ratios, put simply.

So a higher compression ration hurts a diesels ability to spool a turbo is what you're saying?

Also why Is it that diesels run extra high body pressures, sometimes in excess of 70psi on their 70-80mm turbos but gas engines generally run relatively low psi with turbos in excess of 100mm

wait why do you think they spool slow? and they run smaller turbo's because they arent making massive amounts of power...

ex: a 62mm turbo on your brothers diesel is going to make about the same power "maxed" out as it would on an ls1, though theres other variables on the exhaust side to take into account.

as for the insanely high boost pressures, its because they're running compound turbos. 30psi+40psi = 70.

are we really having this discussion?

Well while we're at it, why don't diesels have spark plugs?

What I don't understand is how my 5.7 ls1 could be efficient with that turbo but it's going to be a bit big for his 5.9
Is it being a diesel that makes the difference or just the rpms?

Our high end diesel guys start at 100psi, our top guys are running 220psi of boost. They can spool big chargers too. Just depends on what they are after.

Yes sir I know they can spool them it just baffles me that a 100+ mm turbo is large even for twins on a diesel but yet some gas engines run singles that big

Higher CR will spool the turbo faster.

Smaller RPM range, smaller turbo.

Air and fuel vs. air/spark/and fuel makes a lot simpler combo.

Diesels are easy, FI on a gas car is alot harder
