Default need help with pushing water

Heres a quick run down of the setup

04+ style ls6 block
Forged 346 rotating assembly
9.0.1 compression
Big bore AFR 225s
ARP 12 point head studs
truck manifold kit
pt76gts on 18 psi
93 pump gas and 50/50 water methanol injection

the car makes amazing power and drives close to stock but every couple of months im changing headgaskets. never leaves a puddle of collant but itll slowly start to brake up while driving. then get worse and worse over time till i cant even drive it and have to change the head gaskets. the head gaskets ive been running are .051 compressed thickness and 4.160 mls gaskets. i used felpro first then cometic and this last time i tried cometic again and sprayed them with the copper gasket stuff in a can. they all last about a couple months and then i have to change them.

should i really be pushing water and popping head gaskets on this setup?

is the aluminum block part of the problem?

im on a limited budget and time frame. i really need to keep the setup the same mainly the block because of money. so what im looking for is a cost effective sollution or trick to try to keep from pushing water with out a retune, block, o-ringing, or any thing out of my small budget

thnaks guys!

On my build that I am doing it was suggested to me to have the heads and block modified for a 1/2" head stud to lessen the chance of this problem. Might be something you might want to look into.

There is a guy on the board with some really nice head gaskets i think they are LS9 it might take a while to get them since he is in sweeden. Andreas is his screen name, not sure if I spelled it right though.

With a thick deck head like you have, head studs and only 18 psi, you should not be having an issue. I'd look towards the tune as the culprit. Either that or your deck or heads are warped.

I have the coopering head gaskets from andreas and had them shipped second day air.... it is not cheap but you can have them in your hands this week if you want. Killer gaskets! I plan on pushing it with my four bolt setup so time will tell. p.s... i'm running an iron block though. Best of luck, tracy

What do you have the head studs torqued to? ARP recommends in the instructions to go to 60 or 65 or something, I always went to 75 to get extra clamping force and never had a gasket or head lifting issue on 300 hp worth of nitrous with 93 octane (C16 in the standalone feeding the nitrous) and 12:1 compression with stock GM MLS gaskets.

Have you tried GMs LS9 head gaskets? I have had great luck with them on set ups making killer power. If those are also having issues it is probably time to look at the tune up, and deck surfaces.

Exactly, no way it should push with that setup. I'd had the heads checked then put some ls9 gaskets back on it. I've ran up to 24.5lbs with my jy 5.3 with the ls9 gaskets/arp head bolts with the thin deck casting heads with a billet 76 and haven't pushed any coolant.

when you guys say ls9 head gaskets are you saying to just go to the dealer tell them i want ls9 head gaskets and throw them right on there? will they work with my 3.90 bore block and big bore heads?

also i did some research on here last time and torqued the ARPs to 80 and 25 it was what i seen that arp had recomended for high boost applications

If you're positive on the tune then you either aren't tightening the studs enough or you have a surface that isn't flat. Or you're getting crap gas and it's detonating.

Exactly, PN 12622033 7-layer MLS 4.100 bore head gaskets. I also TQ my ARP hardware to 80/25. Skinnies has the same gaskets on his little 5.3L engines, with lots of miles and high boost pulls. I have them on stock 5.3s to built 1000+ 408s.

Got any pics on where they are leaking? Block side or head side?

Have you ever had the heads surfaced to make sure they arent warped? I would also look into going to a full meth setup instead of the 50/50 mix. Seems to do a lot better.

I'd pull the plugs and look at them, that will help you know if its the tuneup.
