No gap here...

Hey, Ya I would run the 28 teeth on the blower cog. I believe I have a 30 right now I could sell you if you want... Anyone want a 30 tooth cog blower pulley??? I'll need to check to see if it's 30. Lee charges me 80 bucks for a blower cog pulley. I'll sell it 50 bucks shipped.

hmmmmm.
i know i'm going off on a tangent, but i had a gap between my 8 rib and the pulley too, but i put a early corvette ring gear spacer between them ( fit perfectly after a bit of machining).
does anyone think that having that gap causes unneeded stress on the crank bolt? or maybe causes some harmonics that cause the belts to fall off ( i guess it's not as bad when on a cog belt)?

hugger: thanks for the info.

I had a gap with my 8 rib stuff too dirty, and my alingment of the pulleys was off by 1/4" almost and I was throwing belts left and right, they would walk off the ribs and shred, etc.......you have heard the story before......

I installed the COGS myself, and so far after 350miles or so I haven't had any major wearing issues and no walking off issues, so I know I'm close, I just need to get better belt wrap....

Clint my blower pulley is 31 teeth right now so I don't think the 30 would really make a difference.......I'm still waiting to hear from Lee@ASP if he ever decides to respond...

I'll be going on the dyno in a few weeks.........hopefully sikora can take a look at it to see if we can make any "minor" adjustments before it goes to the shop.......

Hugger don't you have the ATI dampner also? If so me and bos, possibly dirty are all running the stock LS1 dampner pulley. If I remember correctly the crankcog bolts up to the ATI dampner instead of being held onto the crank by the crank bolt.

Bos glad to hear that yours are showing some good promise...I should have just left the belt on top of the tensioner it was working good there. Now I have to cut this one off....30 bucks down the drain.

Yea, I would put yours back to the way you had it for now and get back to the dyno for some tuning......

force Ya I've got the ATI Damper on there. I love it. Cost me about 450 extra, but I feel it helped me install the COGS easier than you guys are going through.

True True
I shoulda saved a lil bit more for the ATI dampner, but we are creatures of habit and I always do things the hard way

Cut the belt off today, time to order another one.

I'm finally going to throw my hat into the ring on this one. I'm in Cinti, Ohio almost neighbors with Tom as it relates to this board. I also have switched to the cog set-up to max my D1SC on my new project (forged 408ci). I went to bed worried last night after ready 9 pages of misery. Tonight I see a glimmer of hope (thanks Clint) because I too have an ATI Dampener. Sure seems $450 is worth it at this point, but I do commend you guys on your perservance!! Good luck. I will be into mine within the next couple weeks or so and will let you know how it goes if this thread or simliar is still going.

LETS GET READY TO RUMMMMBLE. Had to do it...... Whats your tooth count? If its the same then welcome to the misery, if its like Clints set up, you will have a good time as the 960 belt will fit easily with some grinding on the tensioner slot.

Sounds like a killer project. So you only read 9 pages huh, There is another post of mine that went to 20+ pages of my personal hell with two sets of these things
With the ATI dampner you will be set. The crank cog won't spin like ours MIGHT under high loads due to how its held to the stock LS1 pulley.
If this thread is dead by the time you get to yours, post up I would like to know how things are going with that 408

Another area that might be a problem is with the knock sensors on our cars being so sensitive and how these cogs like to make some pretty good vibrations in the ol engine compartment. I will get some good logging done tomorrow. I will be watching how my KR is without the cog belt on. With it on I was picking up some serious KR from stopping or taking off at a light and between shifts. At WOT it wasn't as bad, though I was seeing a high of 4 deg KR which is probably due to my hypersensitive 98 knock sensors. Damn 98's

Glad to see you post up Mark, don't be a stranger....misery loves company....j/k...or am I?

I had a little issue tonight, I was driving around and starting hearing some clunking, HMMM.....the damn crank bolt is backing out, I could jiggle the crank pulley with my hand, this was with torquing it down with a lot of force, used 2 of those washers, now maybe just one and cut how many threads off Jeremy?

I don't like the idea that it backed out like that especially w/the blue locktite on there, maybe red this time?

Any ideas guys? I hope this doesn't continue to be an issue, I can't spin the washers by hand behind the head of the bolt, so it probably didnt back out that far, I'm still pissed that it did.......

I don't have a flywheel holder, so I might just wait until I take it to sikoras and have it towed there........I don't think there is a way I can get it tight enough to drive by hand or is there?

I cut the belt off the car because I was panicking when I heard the noise and I didn't want to get caught on the road where I was didn't need any extra stress on it......I noticed on the belt that it is wearing more A LOT on one side, this could be a possible alingment issue.......

I just don't want that damn bolt coming back out in the future, especially with how often I drive the car around........

bos, definatly use red loctite. oh and get a monster impact wrench on that bolt!
oh and i use a stock crank pulley too, but what i noticed that all of you ( i think) have dowels on your crank pulleys or cogs; mine has bolts. and i love them, the never sheared (sure they ate into the side of the pulley, but that shows you how strong they are). just thought i'd share.

Yea, I was running 5/16 bolts on my 8 rib setup, when those broke they left some nice marks on the stock crank pulley.....

I'm going to put the car up on the jack stands soon and try to hand tighten it now for driveability.......don't want to pay tow bills to drive it to where it needs to be.....

Tom, did you try messing around w/your setup yet?

All 3 pins are toast, crank bolt didn't back out too far, 1/4 turn of the bolt got it somewhat snug again, but I don't have the right extension to get it tight.....

If I get it tight by hand again, do you guys think it will be ok to drive for about 10-15 miles to sikoras? He said if the material isn't too hard hes going to tap it for bolts.....but I got to wait until after april 10th.....

I'll get this setup right eventually.......

Not yet, this third shift stuff after 20 years of second shift is kicking my butt. All I do is work and sleep, no time for the car at all.
