Default Decided on a D1SC. Few questions about the setup

So I made a thread the other day about going with FI with my future build.

I decided to go with the following:

D1SC procharger kit
Meth
blower cam
undecided on heads ? AFR / TFS ?
Fast 92 intake

My question is, should I just forge my ls1 or buy some other forged short block ?
i'd like an aluminum motor to help with weight savings. I have 85k miles on my current ls1 shortblock

My goal is to have a fast street car that puts out 700+ rwhp reliably. How much boost would that require out of the D1SC w/ meth ?

**Edit**

Decided to go with the F1-D over the D1SC.

My old motor with the D1 was stock 241 heads, stock ls6 intake, Diamond -8.6cc dish piston, callies rods, Speed inc SC2 blost cam and 13 psi made 676rwhp throught m6 and MWC fab 9. On pump gas and Meth.

Also I have 2 friends both with stock bottum end ls1's one had 317 heads and the other had ported 241 heads and both made 600+ on around 11-12 psi

Sounds like if I forge my current motor I can meet my goals.

impressive for a stock bottom end.

My current motor with forged pistons, rods, and new bearings with a set of AFR or TFS 225 heads and a blower cam to match with the D1SC at 15psi + meth should get me in the 700hp range right ?

10.3@138mph with a clutch that wouldn't let me shift a 1-2 on a hard launch. I could do a 1.6 60 and shift into second just fine. but it a cut a 1.5 or 1.4 60' it wouldn't disengauge. I think that car had a 10.1 or 10.0 in it at that power level I was just done with Buying clutchs

A forged 347 with a D1 on 15psi should put you into the mid 700's. Either set of heads will work well with that combo. The brute speed blower cam seems to work really well and I would also look into running a front mount. The meth will also help out a lot. I made close to 590 on 10psi on the stock motor with 317 heads. That should be a stout combo.

Jeeze after seeing your last thread with recent upgrades I was pumped next summer to go with an EPS cam and AI heads but 600+ hp does sound better than the 450 range..

http://www.procharger.com/supercharger/blog/?p=178

We built the Corvette in the above link back at the old shop. We started with the stock LS1 block, kept the stock crank, add Compstar rods, Diamond pistons, Total Seal rings, Lingenfelter GT2-3 baby cam (for emissions) , Patriot LQ9 Stage 2 heads and the stock LS6 intake manifold. We used shorty emission headers and stock cats and a Magnaflow exhaust system. We used a ProCharger D-1SC at 16 psi of boost and it made 740 rwhp on a Mustang Chassis Dyno. This car was driven hard on a 2.1 mile road course for several years, we added methanol injection to it to keep the inlet air temps down, and added a large oil cooler for the track use. The car was also driven from Chicago to the East Coast and back on a vacation, and still got great gas mileage. Bob

What was the compression ratio with that setup?

I think with the stock heads it was around 9.4 later with my 243 heads it was about 9.9.

If I was gonna build a purpose build motor for a Procharger again it would be 10:1CR

Just do a F1-D instead of the D1.

450hp is fun but a V8 with boost is a combo that's hard to beat. Hopefully it keeps me satisfied for a while.

Did some quick research and it seems like the F1-D makes more torque and mid range down low. Seems like a good idea for a street car. Is the F1-D really loud at idle though ? being able to hear it, is fine with me but super loud is not what I want.

A D1 can be stupid loud.

Who cars about the hp on the rev limiter. It's all about the midrange power.

+1

That's why I'm going turbo.

Haha

The F1-D looks to be a great stepping stone between a D1 which can run out of steam when you add cubes and the older F-series units.

I love my D1 as well I am putting down 600 rwhp now and saw a max of 11.8 lbs of boost on the dyno. I have a forged short block from TSP Callies and Weisco Internals. There are a lot of guys now running stock bottom end and 317's with great success. Keep the boost and a moderate level and you should be ok for a while. There are going to be a lot of opinions on heads OE or aftermarket. Your goal can be reached with either good luck with your goals. I too would like more info on the f1-D as well..

Here is a graph of a 05 GTO with a Cam and F1-D. 4.5" pulley making 13lbs.I like the torque curve.

Thanks for the advice Don. I will be going with the F1-D over the D1SC.
I will probably be asking you a lot more questions about the setup when the time comes. I'll try not to bother you too much. lol

Right now i'm working on getting the MWC 9" in the car with some new shocks/springs.
