Sorry to hear that Tom old buddy. You have had your share of problems and I of course lost my 408 last season. While dissection showed the damage in my latest 427 thread still it was big pain in butt and luckly that didn't run the engine after oil pressure went to zero so minor work on crank will have that engine going again. Hard to say what killed it but likely assembly error from the shop. Owner died mid build so not exactly there to ask any questions and no build sheet supplied. ERL was first class, build sheets and of course there to answer questions. I hope ERL didn't build your engine because right now I am feeling pretty cocky about it being a good one.

So far at near 500 miles my 427 seems great.Oil pressure good ,etc. Knock on wood hope it stays that way. I am actually pretty happy with my mild cam choice, the ls9 is fine for me. But of course its your build ,build it your way.

Anyway hope things work out. Sometimes they do in the long run and of course nice when these cars are not our daily drivers.Still nice to have them up and about not sitting in garage getting dusty.

But modding usually means high maintenance ,more breakdown ,more downtime. Its the nature of the game. I love my 99TT but even now still fighting thru some issues although they are minor ones. In contrast I just jump in my Z06 and go for a drive, and if it breaks I take it to gm and let them deal with it for the next three years or whatever.
But of course your car and my 99TT is much much faster than my stock z06.

I meant what I said before Tom,you have to come up and visit me next year. I promise you we will have fun!

Good luck on everything Tom! Hope it all works out in the end. I think you have put way too much work in that car to not have some awesome rewards from it.

Also thanks for the advice this weekend.

You should post the name of the sponsor on here, that way other people can know to steer clear. If you don't post a name, then other people may end up getting screwed like you did. Or you can post a thread in the sponsor feedback section.

This sucks to hear. It's one thing for something bad to happen due to unforseen circumstances, but it's another thing when they happen due to laziness or carelessness on the side of the builder.

This is how slander gets started. He did not say that Kurt built it but in fact fixed it.

Read blue00zzleeper's first post in this thread. He was there during a significant amount of the op's issues.......

The revelation is startling.....

It should only be stated by the OP. If it is him then hopefully he fixes it but the way I read it was that Kurt fixed the motor that trans2000am was talking about.

Trans2000ams post stated exactly that. Kurt fixed his motor.

FWIW, I have been reading, posting, lurking etc on various GM\LS websites for over a decade and this is the first time I've read anything negative about Kurt.

I was there for 99% of the issues we had to figure out. Hell we dropped and re-installed the K-member 3 times in one weekend. Only reason as to why I hinted where the problem came from is that none of them have tried to talk to Tom about it. I obviously left a lot of the info and another name out of it...I also have not heard anything negative about this shop either...I guess Tom has but I haven't. This motor came out of a very reputable race car on this site and should have been running much better with NONE...or at least very few issues. As you all have read we encountered A LOT of issues and the car was down for month and months at a time. There is no slander contained here sir....just the facts of what we had to do and it still ended up that the motor wasn't right. If they knew the motor wasn't 100% they shouldn't have sold it, also when the motor went back it should have been looked at a little further. The bore size vs piston size is a hard argument.....maybe it was right for said race car under a lot of boost or something crazy but not for a street car and that's what they knew it was going in.

Would the gentlemen that PM'd Tom please shoot me a pm too. I'd like to ask you a couple questions but wouldn't like to do it here to be professional. I'll explain why as well....I may be a 3rd person but I was there from the un-crating all the way until he moved. Thank you

The depth of the pilot bearing on the crank was incorrect. When we bolted up the trans it thrusted the crank forward, putting excessive stress on the thrust bearing, chewing it up.

What were the symptoms and damage? When I put my thrust bearing in this engine I just hammered it into place flush.
