Default Anyone here boosting on Prc STG2.5 5.3L ?

I have an 02 SS with a stock bottom that im currently dd. Soon i'll no longer need to dd it and was hoping to take it off the road and start looking for a shortblock to boost on this winter. I'm trying to work the total cost out, so im curious if i can re-use my prc heads and use dished pistons to help lower my comp. ratio....So any one boosting on em?

Should be as good as any other stock casting head. Since you already have them, I would reuse them and you could always upgrade to an aftermarket casting/thick deck head later on. Obviously it will lower your compression some with the bigger chamber, so maybe run a piston that nets you a little higher now so it drops to where you want later. BTw, what is the chamber size on those heads, because I know my stg 3 tea 5.3's were a 64cc head after the work they did on them which puts it right around the same as most of the aftermarket casting heads.

Im not sure about the exact chamber size now i can find out after theyre off...However i was told im over 11:1 comp....which is why i was wondering if i could gain cc's somewhere in the bottom i have to replace any way lol

I am in no way an expert on the texhnical side of yhis question however, I am running these heads in my DD ls2. I was instructed to run a cam with a larger intake duration which would help with the higher compresion. I have a roots type blower and used comp blower cam 239/243 .624 lift 114 lsa. It's a little rough as drivabilty goes but is making great power. Mine was at 10.2 compression. Keep in mind roots blowers respond better to a little higher compresion.

Bump for more info. I was going to ask this same exact question. Glad I searched. Would I be able to just use a thicker head gasket? Also which HG would be best and where do I get it from?

Are you using them on a stock bottom end?

That's going to leave your compression on the high side. What fuel are you using and how much boost are looking to run?

What about on an ls1 block? I also have one sitting around. I plan on using e85 but it would be nice to be able to use pump gas also.

I have a set of 317 heads laying around but my prc heads are ported and have all the upgrades that a boost head would need.

When I dynoed the numbers in my sig, that was with a 370", Patriot Stg II 5.3 heads shaved to about 56-58cc chambers on 236/232, 114LSA cam.

Is there anyway to check what the compression is while the motor us still in the car?

Add all your numbers up in a compression calculator. With and decked heads and a stock bottom end your compression is going to be higher then 10.1:1. With E-85 you should be ok if your not trying to run too much boost.
