doing a 106mm precision, they sure look good sticking out of the nose of a car, but worried about street use (minimal street use) should I just keep it under the hood?

I was GOING to do this on my RX7, BUT, i was going to cut the whole in the front large enough to slide a horn in for the track and large enough to still fit a filter in their. My only issue was not being able to Find any data on radiators laid flat.
But i say, as long as you can throw a filter on it, whats the problem.![Happy](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_stretch.gif)
EDIT: I would NOT do this with a screen. Filter only, if it were me.

it'll require constant maintenance on that wheel, as you will inevitably get nicks on that wheel from rocks, critters, and small children getting sucked in. Not the end of the world, but not sure i'd do it on a street car that see's, maybe, 5k miles or better a year.
A better answer would be a filter, but damn that looks goofy.
A compromise would be a screen, but screens are known to be horrible flow inhibitors. Then again, at a 106mm, it'll probably deliver more air than you'll ever need. Another option would be to run a screen in the bumper, and get a bellmouth for the track. I run a bellmouth on my 100% of the time but sees almost NO street time. we welded an extension to the bellmouth and then just silicone hose and clamped it to the turbo inlet. Worked out nicely! Anytime you can run a true bellmouth vs a simple hole, it will always perform better.
Dont forget mounting a turbo that low will require a scavenging system most likely.

Take a look at your front bumper...chipped up from rocks and road debris. Now with the turbo creating a low pressure/suction area in front of the car, it will pull in anything in the vicinity of the inlet. It's bad enough to put small rocks, bugs, etc through your impeller wheel and through your motor. It would only take a good size rock to contact your impeller wheel spinning at 100K and cause it to shatter which would send shrapnel into your motor effectively ruining it.

Just run an intercooler to help catch any junk it will pick up! Whats the worst that could happen?! Suck up a big rock, shatter the wheel, trash EVERYTHING in the motor, spit oil out all over the road, then going spinning into a packed minivan with a family of 8 heading on vacation. Then have to rebuild your whole car.
No really, im very dissapointed that i couldnt get my turbo facing forward!
DO IT!!!

How much street use are we actually talking about? Don't give us some fake number either....tell the truth lol. If its a 99% track use car with just cruising to local meets/car shows a really fine screen should be ok since optimal flow won't matter. If you plan on running it hard on the street and track do it right and set it up to use a good filter. I had a shitty filter on my procharger and I was amazed at the dirt that got through...nothing big but Jesus lol. Thank God the intercooler acted as a "trap" for it. Sand and dirt turns to glass under combustion pressures and temperatures....not good! A fine screen should work but it won't be optimal if you actually run hard on the street...maybe cobrakiller and the others can chime in on if the screen will even stop decent particles.
