Default a few gear questions (2.75)

Well im trying to finish up with putting my moser 9 and still am undecided on what gears to go with. i was reading that zombie had a 2.75 gear has anyone tried this with a th400 front mount car? i would like to keep it between the 3.00 and 2.75 because of the street use/ highway pulls and 2 hour drive to the track. I would really like to try the 2.75 gears mainly because i dont see to many people running them other than zombie

what are some low gears you guys have ran in a front mount car?

how much load would be on the turbo?

the set up

402ci
gt-88 t6
ls3 heads
l92 single plane w/aarons elbow
3 bar map sensor

if theres anything else you need to know about the car im just trying to figure out fun the car will be to drive with 2.75a

FWIW my buddy has a '98TA with 2.73 gears. It is a heads 224/224 cam car with a Yank 4000 converter. Car goes 11.40's with 87 octane gas in the tank. Full weight nothing but the back seat removed. Drives to the track drives home. I don't see how with a turbo yours can't perform extremely well. The transmission will hate you though.

I had a 3.0 with 28's and was cruising about 2700@65 and swapped for a 3.5 gear just due to the sluggishness.

You'll be fine, my ltd runs 2.73's and 27" tire, maxx runs 3.08 at 28" tire, and automagic runs 3.00 and 28" tire, and my rx7 runs 3.50 gear and 33" tire. All were th400 cars, the rx7 is now a glide with the same gear. It'll feel a lil sluggish off the line, but you can get up in boost and leave fine. If you want to drive on the highway much run those 2.75's! We did 90mph cruising back on a road trip this spring in my ltd and maxx's 3rd gen without a problem.

I run a daily driver type street car set up for unprepped pavement racing. I have thought of trying 2.50's because traction is still hard to find with the 2.75's.

I run 28X12 tires with a car that is set up with the lightest front I could build. I took it to the track & it did 1.4 60's with the tires in the air.

for roll racing I do 2nd gear from 40-125 mph, pretty cool.

I would not run this gear if I had access to a track though.

Well i would say i'll probably be going to the track maybe once or twice every two months its not that often. i normally just go meet up with some local cars and we just go play around on the interstate.

so what trans are you running?i take it a 400?

i am caught up here too with this choice

i run 3.27s currently with a 3000# car, 26" tire, and 1.76 glide

i would REALLY like to stick in some 2.73s and see what it is like

but i wonder how much it would kill the car?

i can come up to full power with the Tbrake instantly as is with the 3.27s and blow the tires off, so i am not really worried about short times

with the 3.27s i can cut 1.40s and that is the limit of my traction with the rear setup, and that is only leaving off the brake moderately

but i wonder if it would KILL my backhalf and MPH with the 2.73s?

I appreciate Justins input when i talked to him aswell

IDK about running those gears with a glide. Yes I am t400 & don't shift until around 125 into 3rd. Great for street, it does feel like OD when I hit third & I have to be careful on pump gas with that much load.

I have only been to the track a couple of times & I think my best MPH was around 140 while my best 1/8 is 116 so yes it does fall on it's face a little.

that was with the little tc, have a bigger turbo now & I might not ever go to the track again to see what it does now.

May have been less. That was a few months ago. I'll check it next time out with the 3.5 gear.

This is my car driving around, 28" gears, 2.75 gears. If it spools fast and you have a th400 and want a mostly street car, this should make you happy.

http://www.streetfire.net/video/new-...ipi_739094.htm

If you want to street / strip, go 3.25's, that's what I'm going to do when the car goes back together.

The car will see more street action than anything, but when i do go to the track on plan on leaving off a t-brake/2 step set up so im not really worried about it being a pig off the line
