Default Help! Overheating after ATI install

I recently had an ATI procharger installed. I drove the car home from the shop who installed it (1 hour freeway). A couple of days later, I drove it again to have it tunned (2 hours freeway - some stop and go traffic). After the tune, I started to develop overheating problems, especially when the A/C is turned on. Yesterday it got up to 90 degrees in California, so I don't know if the overheating was due to the tunning or the ATI set-up. I have a 180* stat and it was tunned for that stat.

When the fan comes on it pulls air away from the radiator instead of pushing towards the radiator, is that right. The fan is install on the motor side of the radiator.

Can I have the dealer check the fan settings, thermostat, etc.? Can the dealer adjust the set points for when the fans come on? If they can, will it mess-up my tunning?

Thanks,

James

First i would get 160 thrmostats. Second, u have to lower ur fan engagement points via LS1 Edit. The shop who did the tunning can do it for u. Those two things will lower ur engine temp. If it didnt work, u will have to look for a Becool radiator with a very strong fan.

Make sure your fans are blowing the right way, and definatly get the 160 stat. And set your fans accordingly.

I agree with the rest, get the 160 stat, lower fan settings with edit or some other tuner, verify that not only is your fan blowing the right direction, but is it blowing period, make sure your coolant is full and clean, your coolant system is flowing properly, and your waterpump is pumping. If all that is checked out and you still have over heating problems, then invest in a dual spal fan. One of those is gonna fix your problem.

the fan should be pulling air from the radiator amd blowing towards the rear, if the the fan was blowing towards the front of the car and the car was moving, the air coming in from the front would be fighting the air being moved forward by the fan - wouldnt work very well.

If its 90 degrees out, you are in traffic and you have the a/c on your car WILL run very hot with the ATI fan/shroud setup (they dont seem to mention that in the instructions or ads ), been there several times. I removed the a/c on this car and dont drive it when its 90+, thats how I fixed this one

My other car I sealed the shroud to the radiator the best I could and use a giant open electric fan (watch them fingers) that was a few hundred CFM more then the ATI/MR gasket fan. The a/c could be used on a 85+ day but it would still get pretty hot, ~230/240 or so, but it wouldnt boil over.

A 160 thermostat wont help much if the radiator/fan/water pump doesnt have the ability to keep the car under 200 degrees. It will help a little on a short trip but both a 160 and 180 are 100% open over 200 degrees..

don't waist your money on a be cool radiator, check the little stuff first like they mentioned above. if you want to stick with a single fan setup like the ati kit, get a spal fan. what i did was i got the spal dual 11" ( or 12") fans, they flow a ton more than the crappy one ati supplies.

I got the single 16" spal, its loud, but it gets the job done....pushes 2500cfm

I'm running the stock thermostat in my iron block motor with a CAS radiator, my temps are probably under 180 all the time, no matter how hot it is out......

I just went to the Spal web site and there are so many different variations of the 16" and the dual 11".

I know I need a pull type, but which fans will fit with an ATI Procharger in place?

Thanks

well it's hard to say which one would quit first.

but for being quieter, the dual setup is.

Call ATI they'll tell you. The dual fans work way better than the single that ships with the kit.

go to summit racing

search for electric fan.

the be-cool bci-75007 is what you want.

it is the spal unit sold in a be-cool box. I know this for sure as it is the unit I use.

hope this helps

get ready for sticker shock too. these f'rs are expensive

When you buy the Summit Racing Be Cool dual setup, do you need to buy any of the suggested parts they lists, such as:

* Fan relay harness, excluding thermo switch.
* Electric fan wiring harness. Turns on fan at 195* and off at 185*.
* Adjustable cooling fan bracket.
* Fan support brackets, upper/lower w/bc...

Thanks
