Default Procharged 408

I'm building a 408 with a f1-a procharger, it has cnc ported l92 heads, cam is unkown at the time(I will prolly have pat g grind me one), 1 7/8 hooker long tubes and it will be going through a 4l80 and a moser 12 bolt. I want to make around 800 to the wheels or as far as I can take it with out meth injection or race gas. Since this is my first f/I car, my question is what would be a good c/r? Or what is common with this type of setup?

Keep it around 9 or 9.5 to 1 and it should be ok. Very similar setup to mine.

Thank you, I was thinking prolly somewhere around 9.5 I just wanted to make sure. My biggest thing is I don't want the car to be sluggish when off boost.

9.5:1 minimum I say. You could probably get away with running 10.1 or a little higher.

An why wont you use meth? Meth is awesome

I like 10.1 and a healthy cam with some overlap.

I am going to put mine on e85 since I can get it in Pearland. At 9.5:1 the motor won't be sluggish off boost. My boost ramps in to where its not sluggish at all.

Like I said this is my first f/I car so I'm not sure how its going to feel, that's why I'm asking the guys with the experience I live in webster where do you get e85?

I might run meth I'm just learning about a lot of this still.

How much meth is normally used under conditions where its needed, or I guess the better question is how often do you have to refill it? the car is going to be pretty much a weekend car.

e85 station off 518 in pearland. I am sure there are more. Water meth 50/50 mix. I don't run it, but it takes a while to go through a gallon of it. You ramp it in where it sprays at a certain boost level and up. If you are in boost all the time then yes you will use some, but short bursts it lasts a while. I am running around 12-13lbs right now and haven't dynoed yet, but hope to make 720 to the wheels, maybe more.

Only issue to hold you back from wha tyou have listed is the heads. If they are not the 6 bolt style you will have to be careful on your boost level. I run 17lbs (turbo charged) and have not had issues with my L92's but I won't go any higher with these heads. If you have E85 readily avalible to you you can run even higher compression, but you will be married to it. Great stuff until you take a long trip and can't find it anymore.

Dang you think studs would help? I was thinking of running around 16 to 18 pounds, that's where I see a lot of people having sucsess. And I would like for the car to be able to run independant from things like e85 and meth injection so no matter where I'm at I don't have to worry about anything that's why I was asking about how often you have to fill the meth/water but if its not that much then I might end up using it anyways.

I recommend using 100% methanol as a mixture with water can put out the flame. Somewhere around 16 psi is about the limit to what a stock thickness head can handle using ARP head studs, but without using race gas or methanol injection you may not be able to get much past 14 psi of boost, it just depends on the build, a good tune, elevation, and a little good fortune. In any case, 800 rwhp should not be a problem. A good set of heads and a good cam will get you there.

Check out the dyno graph in the above link. This was with an LS2 block, 4.0" stroker crank, AFR off the shelf 225 heads, 9.5/1 compression ratio, FAST 92 intake, Kooks 1-7/8 headers, methanol injection with 93 octane and only 12.4 psi of boost with an F-1A. Here is a link to what this engine went into, and this was on a Mustang Chassis Dyno. http://s478.photobucket.com/albums/r...3D17e1cef5.pbw Bob

With 9.5:1 compression, 93 oct and methanol you should be able to run 17psi with a good tune. You can always have 2 tunes as well....93 and meth for your street tune with conservative timing and a E-85 tune which can be a little more aggressive. 800rwhp shouldn't be to much of an issue...I made 830 with my 370, old style F1 and a horrible exhaust on 18psi.
