im running 16deg there at 14psi
250kpa is about 22psi and thats 15deg
im gunna knock 2 deg out of it over 14psi and see if it happens again, ill be getting some more stock pistons hopefully soon. might pull them all out and just have a look.

I'm not saying for sure you have detonation (that would be stupid to say, and I don't even know why it would be happening, I just can't think of any other likely reason for the ring lands to break like that), BUT there can be a lot of interesting evidence of what is going on hidden way down in the plug near where the porcelain meets the metal body of the plug. This can be true even on plugs that look very good like yours do.
My suspicion is that you are indeed having a little bit of detonation in those cylinders, that may be happening because you aren't injecting any water. Water doesn't cool the intake charge as well as the methanol, but it is far better at absorbing the excess heat in the combustion chamber, and as such it is the best suppressor of detonation.
I find it interesting that you're having this type of problem, when the magazine tests have taken stock engines like yours to far higher torque levels ON RACE GAS. The race gas is the really interesting ingredient obviously, since it can effectively rule out detonation under conditions like this.
Anyway, here is what you need if you really want to unlock the secrets that your plugs can reveal for you:
Here's the link for it on Walmart.com if you're interested:

im not sure if i wrote this recently but i built and tuned a single Cam D series honda motor.
and on 25psi i ended up with 7 degrees of timing, a few more than that and it would break the lowers like a mother ******. just like this. tops would be fine
it was 91-93 octane and intercooled, no methanol or tricks

Really depends on the fuel you run matt. I run a D16y8 with 25psi out of an ebay turbo thats been 122mph in a full weight ek coupe. I had 22 degrees in the thing but with C112 race fuel and it takes a beating

Lol. I had a d series car a few years back. Talk about a motor that did t want timing. We ended up running some crazy 1.25* per psi retard. Only way we could keep the head down.

I know your a budget guy and e85 is great stuff?, but maybe buy a drum of race fuel, put 2 fuel cells in the car, and crank the bitch up. Put a couple 1/4 turn valves on the lines so you can switch to pumpgas on the street.

If you run E85 you really should get a tester. A couple of months ago we got some that tested 78% ethanol and a few people locally had some detonation while running it. A few of the higher HP guys test it every time at the pump to make sure they get at least 85% ethanol.

The other thing to think about is that it absorbs water pretty easily and depending on how fresh it is can effect the %. I second having a Hydrometer if you are trying to push the limits. I see that on E Bay that you can find them for less than $10.00 .
