Only drawback would be suspension. Those jag's couldn't stand up to everyday use let alone if you put some power in it.

1988 Mercury Cougar
Sleek aero styling. Hardtop 2 door. RWD accepts for 8.8, 9in will prolly be no sweat.
Large engine bay. Pretty much all metal construction body. So it should take much to brace it. It's only Ford I would consider, with ls power of course. If a sbf fits, a ls will pretty much drop in too.

9 Inch the wood side wagon, twin turbo 390, 4L80E...take a lot cash from a few big talkers and drop some jaws

4) ford thunderbird SC (89-92)
with all four of these, you get 'decent' interior too, not a fan of the 80's malibus or fairmont interiors personally.

How ambitious are you with that welder?
An Idea I had that I will probably never get to. The later 70's Eldorado's are front wheel drive but also have a factory rear triangulated 4-link like a G-body. Drop in a turbo LS with a transfer case, G-body rearend and some floor pan mods and you have an AWD car that could run low 10's on regular radials and original wheels/hubcaps.
