Why #7?

Installed a 160 t-stat with 2 1/8 holes and drove for the first time, now I am getting low readings. In traffic or speeds around 25 it is 180-190, not bad. But, when drivng 55+ drops to 170-175. Isn't that too low?? Especially if I am truly seeing higher readings from the pass head?? Going to test that 180 t-stat.

so i just read this whole thread and i'm still wondering if blocking off all the steam ports would really cause any damage? i've read that the aftermarket heads don't even have steam ports and the new ls3 motors don't either... nobody really knows if the steam ports are the true culprit of the #7 failure... soooo.... with a stock LQ4 (back ports are already blocked) would it harm my motor that already has 100,000 miles on it to block the fronts also?? this is a swap and i would love to not have to worry about another line to hookup or plumb.....
Thoughts???

If you are forced induction and pushing even remotely hard where there can be localised heating of the water leading to it boiling, then it would be mental to block up these ports, as it can reduce the effectiveness of the cooling system
