wow! thats crazy. thank you for the info. this will be my second car. my first one took me 6 years. drove it 4 times and it got stolen and never found. so now i have an 85 gn. 10 point and a 9 inch. it weighed around 3050 with a big block. wanting to be comfertable in the 9's with boost up. Is it the same with the lq motors? I would think even a 76mm with that high of boost would be more than plenty. You have to run an SD tune to be able to run that much boost though right?

pushing water is exactly what I did on my motor. That liquid went into the cylinder wall....and well if you have ever seen what happens when you throw boiling water on a frozen windshield then you surely get the idea. That was my fault for having too much timing, as well as making 2lbs more boost than anticipated, and the cam I had really was far more beneficial at making the thing boost midrange than we had anticipated....made 600rwhp on the dot through the auto before we lost compression at 5800 rpms. was going to send it to 6500 lololol. live and learn.

I constantly was pushing water on my old setup ls6 block afr 225s ls9 gaskets arp head studs pt76gts 18psi and pump gas/methanol and had an awesome tune on it. I'm thinking it had a lot to do with the aluminum so the new setup is iron block with 1/2 head studs well see how it goes

Alot of people lift the heads and don't know it. Most race cars measure how much is pushed and when it hit's a certain limit they change gaskets. It's a norm in racing.
You can hit a high boost/power on a dyno. It's ussually the high speed run on the street/track that lifts the head.

I think that folks are better about tuning and AF now compared to the old days.
I don't think about it in terms of boost, but more in terms of ET and weight. In the very beginning of the FI LSX scene, folks would lose head gaskets only running in the 9's, then it was the low 9's.... By say 2005, 7 years into the scene the bar was the low 8's. Most folks running low 8's in the 1/4 would inevitably push water.
Now that we have all this 6 bolt stuff the bar is really high 7's for high hp builds. The guys running mid 7's and quicker have some pretty trick blocks.
But if you are 4 bolt, stock size head studs, and say heavy, yeah you have to watch out. Heavy = Load = Heat = problems. Iron won't distort as much with heat so the aluminum stuff will have deck problems as well as bored distortion before aluminum will.
Maybe Kurt will chime in.

wow. that is extremely ballsy with e85 aint it? i was figuring -10 up and -8 return. i could do an in tank setup but prob go with a cell. are you running a stock computer? Thats why I want to go with iron block. My buddy has a 4.8l in a truck I could build but holding out for the 6.0l. The 6 bolt blocks are just the lsx right?

hi i run an lq9 iron 408 stock 241 heads, cometic gaskets, have seen 20.4psi with c16 no issues yet!!!! as said earlier isn,t the mix of iron block, aluminum heads a better way to go to prevent this???? along with tune arp bolts/studs good fuel etc going bigger turbo and some afr or t/flow heads so might replace the arp bolts with some studs just to be safe!!!! cheers
