Default Unleashed Stock Bottom End Turbo C5 - New Best...10.26

Sun burnt and tired, so I'm gonna try to make this quick:

The car now has 118k miles on the stock engine (cam only), stock M6, and stock rear. And almost exactly 5k miles since building the rear-mount oil-less turbo kit. Slapped on a new set of Hoosier Drag Radials, 315-30-18's on this week(previously running old M/T ET Street 305-35-18's) and drove it nearly 2 hrs each way down to Clay City for Car Wars today. I dyno tuned it earlier in the week to 821whp. It was blazing hot outside, crazy humid, and track prep sucked. But at least the storms and hail missed us.

Anyway, made a total of 8 full 1/4 mile passes today. Ranging from 10.26 to 11.35, and 139-142mph. The best being this one:

60ft 1.554
330 4.438
1/8ET 6.713
1/8mph 109.829
1/4ET 10.266
1/4mph 139.555

Boost was a couple lbs lower than it was tuned at, and A/F was super rich all day (10.4-10.8). Admittedly, I couldn't figure out exactly why. Until we were on our way home. The guys were behind me in another vehicle and we were running about 85mph on the Interstate when I decided to "air it out". So I dropped to 4th and slow rolled into it up to about 150, painting black stripes the whole time. Got home and played the videos, and there's no doubt that it was spinning nearly all the way down the track. You can actually even hear the tires "squealing" through 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Sounds crazy, I know. So I'll get the videos up as soon as possible.

(Build info availble on our website or in my previous thread, located here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...-turbo-c5.html )

Hope everyone had a great weekend! We did!

Awesom, your car had been my exact dream project for a couple years now.

I'm also running a similar comp turbo and ive been doing some back pressure testing. Is there any way next time your tuning you could check yours? Really curious to how much it is on your kit/setup.

Thank you so much!! Funny you should mention the bp test. Now that we've changed to a 66mm PTE WG, I was planning on checking it later this week. I also ordered a 1.15 AR exhaust housing that I'm gonna try out on mine next. So I will definitely share the info on the difference between the .96 I have now, versus the 1.15. I never thought I'd say this, but the boost hits the tires so hard right now that I could almost use a little lag!

So what caused it to run so rich?

Very nice. How high you spinning it? My stock block let go @ about 6500. Made a bunch of passes before that but was always out of gear about 200' feet out. Got greedy and turned up the limiter and BOOM!

I'm running a MAF tune that's tuned for a couple more lbs of boost than it was making. I'm still assuming that the boost was low due to it spinning so much through 3rd and 4th. On top of that, it was really hot and humid. I played back my run logs last night and noticed that my IAT's were 111 degrees on the starting line, and 91 degrees at the end of the track. So at least the FMIC and the methanol are doing their job, .

It almost always hits the rev limiter in 1st at 7200 (boost comes on too hard and quick). Then with these shorter tires, I'm shifting 2-3-4 at 6800-7000 to be able to make it through the 1/4.

Why are you checking bp after the wg change? What did you have on there before for a wg

Rob

Had a geat time down there man...really glad you guys made it down and got to haul home some hardware to boot :-D
That vette taking off at the line reminds me of a jet car taking off!! Can't wait to see the video's up of it! That thing runs crazy sick man! You guys do some incredible work bud!!
I was pretty stoked about that the little silver c6 of mine as well..pretty cool when 8 of the 10 runs are down in the 10.7x-10.9x range. Soon as I get a little more traction on that thing I hope to best my 10.5x run!

If you can get that one of yours to hook down the track I have no doubt you'd be an easy 9-sec daily driven street car. just plain awesome man!!

Here are a few videos from yesterday:
(sorry for the watermarks....didn't have editing software for MAC and that makes it free. )

(10.26 pass. There is no doubt you can hear the tires screeching all the way through 2nd and 3rd.....at least...)

Do you really expect people who have made passes in decently quick cars to believe this? 3rd/4th gear squealing, might want to check your alignment.

Not sure if you're kidding or not, but he's a 6 speed, so each time he shifts it's shocking the tires from loading/unloading/loading, so I'm sure he's chirping them especially with how much power he's making.

Either way, the car looks like a blast to drive. Enjoy and be safe.

Ive seen a lot of turbo corvettes (with less hp then this one) haze the tires in 3rd /4th gear pulls going down the interstate...so I dont consider this a stretch at all. Granted I know the track and highway are different, but the concept is the same..
For that matter, even my little A6 car can crack the tires free at highway speeds if I shock it and let the auto drop a gear or so...

Very nice. How much boost did you dyno on? My setup is close to yours, but I've been scared to take it down the track on the stock rear. You've inspired me to crank up the boost a little more and give it a run.

I can't believe that stock transaxle is taking the abuse!

What brand/size tires are you running out back?
