You and your $80 motors.

JK, wish I could find deals like that. I did find a 5.3 with 120k on it for $250 the other day on the local craigslist. Was thinking about picking it up but I don't really have any use for it right now other than to sit in the garage as a backup.

I'm in the process of tearing down a 01 5.3 with 30k miles now. It's been sitting around for about 5-7 years so I'm having it hot tanked and throwing all the stuff back in with a Z06 cam and running a stage III incon kit. It should drive 12-14 psi all day long.

My next door neighbour picked one up for me out of michigan. 5.3L of unknown year but if the pcm is from the same truck its an 01. Unknown mileage but trust me it cant be much at all. Looks like close to new. Spare intake and a/c compressor and all accessories. Pcm was already programmed to run no emissions and setup for a manual trans. Egr delete exhaust manifolds too. Runs perfect with no engine light on. Just have to figure out what i am gonna do for a turbo but the setup so far is $700 bucks. With a turbo setup i think i will make alot more power then my 383 gen1 which cost me about 5000 to build. And i figure i can have this thing boosted and making more power than the 383 for around $3500. I think that is a smoking deal for the driveability and power which will hopefully be around 600 at the wheel.

I was a die hard BBC guy myself, its hard to wrap my brain around the fact that
my twin turbo 5.3 runs WAY better than my old nitroused 502.

It was really easy and I had a blast. Took a little more then half a can of Carb cleaner and a wire brush. How much is the machine shop charging?

2- 5.3 motors. both just ticked over 100k, one even came with the harness, the alternator and starter.....got it for 350.

If your sending them to the machine shop, then it matters not.

When AES sent me my estimate a while back and the lq9 iron block was 550 (used core)

Is that a cast block? Because if it is that's a 4.8 not 5.3
