et goal is 9.x, id like to see 9.7's but ill be happy with 9.anything

heres how is sits now

fired it up last week and had a couple issues but most importantly a noticeable lifter tick, hence my angry post.

measured lifter preload and I was at .113 with 7.400 pushrods which is more than i wanted. i think/hope the tick was a result of too much preload combined with 15w50 break-in oil not letting the lifters pump up.

installed a set of 7.350's today and restarted and the tick is still there but noticeably less pronounced, sounds more like a noisier than average valvetrain. more importantly it goes away as you come off idle which it didnt before. still has me a little concerned

vid from tonight (still on the old tune)

any opinions on valvetrain noise?

Sounds like a dead lifter to me, just a guess though. It sounds distinctly like it is only one lifter. you should be able to get a stethoscope or a screwdriver to listen in and find out which one is your problem child.

i hope not. things are brand new ls7's with exactly 0 miles and maybe 20 min of total run time. its most prominent on the front two cylinders, particularly on the pass side. no rockers are loose so i dont think its collapsed. based on the oil flow path, since 1 and 2 get oil last, im really hoping the oil weight has something to do with. i really dont feel like pulling the heads back off

Yea that would be really nice, I know my ls7's have done fine for me going on 3 years. Well get some thin oil in there and let us know how it does. Looking forward to some more track vids

so i finally got the car back together.

turns out my lifter tap was a bigger issue than i thought. cyl 1 intake lifter somehow managed to frictionize itself in the bore. wasnt locked up and the cam had no scars or marking on it, but it was substantially tighter in the bore than the other 15 lifters. no idea how it happened because everything went together fine on assembly but i tore it back apart (joy), honed the bore, replaced the lifters with some comp 850's and reassembled and all seems well now

spent an hour or so on the dyno last night. tune is about 75-80%, still taking it a little easy, im kinda paranoid since this motor has been fighting me every step of the way.

happy so far, motor has 100 miles on it and theres more in the tune. gonna leave it on the spring (10#s) for a couple weeks and then put a controller on it and turn it up to 15 or so and see what happens. now i just gotta put a tag on it and go beat the **** outta it

actually yeah. did 608hp/670ftlbs if memory serves on 14#'s and 2deg less timing, still 93 octane. turbo is out of exhaust side and flatlines around 5300 rpm. ill probably change the .96 AR out for a 1.15 and see what happens

ill post a graph tomorrow, have them on the computer at work

Any pictures of the alternator mounting?

I've never seen anyone use the stock bracket like that.

heres the 14# graph and an overlay. cheapy hallman boost controller drops about 1-1.5#'s from peak to redline

Id love to swap to a bigger turbo, but my compressor housing is less than 1/4" away from the radiator and I dont particularly feel like taking the car apart right now. Did 136 mph last time out, hoping for 138-139 with the new turbine housing

My Hallman does the same thing. When i swapped to my Precision, the turbine housing was exactly the same and the compressor side was maybe 1/4" bigger all around. It doesnt appear to have gotten any close to the radiator either. I have the compressor exit facing straight down and thats where the tightest fit (right by the alternator idler pulley) was because of the 3" exit. Idk how you have yours clocked but if its the same i bet itll drop right in, didnt even take the radiator or upper radiator hose out for the swap.

Thats really great MPH though, were those numbers on a mustang dyno? Im hoping for 135+ this year

The tc7675 or 7875 should drop right on without any modification. The compressor housing is only slightly beefier than the 7668 hurricane series.

Outlet on the 7675 is same at 2.5 inchs

Nice build! This might be a newbie question, but why an iron block? Are they that much stronger or cheaper?
