Forged 347/TC76/T56 Build Thread
Time for Round 2, and it's still a budget build. I figure I'm about a month or so away from buttoning up my car so I might as well start a build thread to show what I've been up to for the past four months.
Previous Setup: Stock Shortblock, 317's and LS6 cam, Stock T56, TC76 @ 10#'s and 13-14 degrees on 93 octane. Best Rwhp 578, best Rwtq 601 on a Mustang AWD-500. Best ET 10.43 @ 133.6, generally cuts low 1.5's. Turbo Build Thread.

The car started having issues going into 4th at WOT. Never gave me crap on the street but the last track outing only went in 4 of 8 passes. Same track trip it tossed a belt at the top of fourth and got a little warm so I packed it up. I had thought I had fixed the belt problem, turns out I didnt and it did it again on the hwy and pushed a headgasket before I could pull off the road. Tear down didnt showing anything severe except some minor vertical scoring on #6 and #8, but once I got it down to the shortblock I knew I was gonna end up taking it out.
New build is nothing crazy, especially with what guys are putting together now, but it should get the job done.
Primary Upgrades
- Forged Iron 347 built by Total Engine Concepts
- JE Pistons, Eagle H Beams, Stock Crank
- 226/230 .605/.572 115LSA +3
- Built T56
- Dual 255 Intanks
Goal is 650-700 on pump gas, and see what the TC76 will push on race gas (hoping for 750-800). ET goals i 9.6-9.7 @ 145.
Ill be cleaning/removing/upgrading a bunch of other stuff in the engine bay as well (ABS delete, wire tuck, HVAC box delete, modify and recover engine harness, painting, etc). Over the next 6 months I would like to finish this and get the car on the road since I have been itching to drive it again, then finalize the rear suspension, and lastly pull apart the interior to install a 6pt and clean stuff up in there.
On to the pictures:
Tear down pics:
109k miles
Painting:
HVAC Delete:
Free Donor Motor out of an 01 Silverado
Iron 347:
Evap And Charcoal Can Delete:
Coated Manifolds and Wrapped Crossover:
Twin 255's:
New Brian Tooley Racing Valve Springs (also helped my select cam lobes for the new cam):
ABS Delete:
And here's how the car and trans sit at the moment:
Still have a lot left to do, but I'm finally getting the ball rolling on finishing this thing up, cant wait.

thanks guys
i was really surprised at the lack of carnage when I tore the trans down, granted I havent pulled apart the mainshaft or the countershaft extension yet, but so far everything looks great so ill pretty much be doing all the standard **** (synchros, keys, 3-4 fork, pads, etc etc). as far as the sprayer. I will be adding a bung to the case while its apart as well as running a tps signal wire while im redoing the harness, depending on funds I may hold off a couple months on putting the rest of the stuff in.

Nice job man, keep it up, you're scaring me with that trans stuff'!i was pushing 570whp with my stock short block with no problems on the street,i'm going forged now and planning to reach 750-800whp, i hope my t56 stays alive...

progress progress progress . . .
trans is back together, new 1-2 and 3-4 synchros, all the standard upgraded stuff, filed the dog teeth back to an edge on 1st through 4th, new mainshaft, new 5/6, and put a bung in the case for the fluid sprayer which i plan to have come on with the hobbs switch signal for the second pump.
also made some motor progress. played musical engine stands and got the new motor on a workable stand instead of a shipping crate. cant say enough about how happy i am with Mike and TEC. I took them a rusty iron motor that had been sitting open in a shed for god knows how long. never asked or expected them to paint it, but it looks great
partially assembled, heads will go on tomorrow then load it up and take it and the trans to my mini-shop where the car is
ordered some badass coolant plugs for the heads with 1/8 npt outlets for my coolant crossover system also. gonna remake fuel pump harness and fan harness over the next couple days. getting there . . .
