YET another 5.3L junker
thought i would share. the car is a 68 chevelle, 4 link back halved car, with 33X14.5 rears. car weighed 2900lb with big block so it should be lighter then that when im done. going to be running on e98 and mid 8's is the goal.
engine:
stocker 5.3l
EPP blower cam
chromoly push rods
.650 valve springs
ls9 gaskets
ARP head bolts
ls1 intake
ls6 fuel rail (inside joke)
220lb injectors
QTP headers
power adder:
F1 procharger with cogs (lsx transplant kit)
will update on progress as i move along

also i kept everything in mind with this build. i went supercharged as there is no pieces or contaminated oil going through it like a turbo would. i went with a cog so the crank wouldn't have the tension on it like a rib belt would. i will also be running a engine diaper of coarse, and the exhaust will exit behind the rear tire's so no oil going through the exhaust cant get on the rear brakes or tires.

shouldn't. with a cog, there is tension of turning the supercharger. with a belt it has to be super tight to prevent slippage, plus the tension of turning the supercharger. at least thats how it work in my mind.

i didn't own it when it had the big block. traded my 98 ss roller for it. here is the only picture i have right now of the whole car.
this is my old setup before i got this 5.3 idea. had a 408 and had a 106mm ready to be mounted, but got bored with it. also didn't like the idea of spending $$$$$ to keep it running every year. just wasnt fun anymore.

I like the direction you are going with the 5.3, I'm really anxious to see how it turns out. I can relate on the $$$$$ for a high end engine and routine maintenance, that's the exact same reason i decided to go cheap 5.3.
What are you using for fuel management? Stock ECM?
FYI: My car weighed 3047 lbs with the blown bbc and now weighs 3024 lbs with the
5.3 and twin turbos,full exhaust, full interior and sound system. So you should be well under 2900 when done. Are you using an aluminum block 5.3?

I know there isn't tension on it when the motor is not rotating, cogs are very loose infact. But UNDER ACCELERATION, there is tremendous amount of tension. Our ysi car had an 8tibbed setup, slipped, so we swapped to a cog, and ended up bending our brackets bc under WOT the cog had a LARGE amount of tension. Pulled the front of the blower down and started slacking the opposite side of the belt. U would be Amazed at how much tension there is when that motor wants to accelerate straight to 7k, and the blower doesn't. And this was on an easier to spin ysi.

doing a stock computer and a iron block. the shop that will be tuning it did a car today that has same procharger and pulleys as mine, but has built motor 402, heads, and intake. it made 867whp. i cant slow down the procharger anymore, so it should be interesting.

and you must of had one hell of tough crank snout, or a thin bracket

made a little progress on the car. had to put in a steel firewall, steel tunnel, new front suspension, and completed a bunch of little things. here are a couple progress pictures.
wanted to see the stance with the new suspension. going to be scaled once it goes for the tune.
