8 second stock 5.3 THE GRENADE
Went to joliet to run true street and make some shakedown runs. Remember I just got it running about 2 weeks ago and didnt have any time for a local track day and decided to go anyhow. Learning how to launch on a turbo car is tricky without a boost controller, but I managed to fig out how.
my 1st pass with the combo, leaving with 0 boost, and on wastegate springs (13psi) netted me a 9.8 @145 with a horrible 1.7 somthing 60ft. It looked like I took off from a stop light then whoosh it took off.
I had 2 more practice runs, basically just trying to fig out how to launch, went 9.7@145 then 9.2@147. still on wastegate pressure
Holley hasnt released boost control yet so I rigged something up that I though would work, it failed, it would start to build more boost then go back to 13psi then build it up and back down. Surging basically. But I left it hooked up anyway.
Heres the results from my 3 runs after the true street cruise. We are required to run 30 miles and go back to the track and we cant do anything to the cars, except lower tire pressure. No hood pops, no adding fuel, no tuning, ect. Then we run 3 hot lap passes
1st: 1.39 60ft (peddled it, cause it pulled a big wheelstand)
5.84 @122
9.05 @153
2nd: 1.61 60ft (my fault, I didnt build enough boost)
6.3 @119
9.58@150
3rd: 1.31 60ft
5.73 @121
8.97 @151 (my first 8sec pass, woo woo)
I wish my 1st run went better cause it would have been an 8.8 I think. The IAT's by the 3rd pass were +245* and the trans temp was 230*
Going to put a boost controller on it and maybe an intercooler too. See how deep it will run into the 8s when I turn up the wick.

It wasnt a steady pressure, it would go up to 19 then to 13 on all the runs, it was like a rocket for a sec then it felt like you hit the brakes, then a rocket again, and just cycled like that. Ill see if I can pull a log out and fig out how to post it

Whats your race weight? that grenade is a good analogy for what i predict happening to that poor stock 5.3. lol
edit: i just saw your other thread and it answered both of my questions. How much timing are you running in the wot rpm x mg/cyl cells?

yes, a stock lm7
If it blows up then Ill go spend anoth $175 on another 5.3 and run it some more, but I think itll last a good little while. No noises thus far, good oil pressure, good compression, thing runs like a champ, hardly any vapor coming out of the breather too. This engine was a way for me to learn how to do my own tuning so itll get pushed very very hard this season.
I weighted it at joliet and it was 3160, alot less than I expected to see, I figured it was going to be close to 3300

Yeah. Great times for sure especially for your first time out. That thing is flying and there isnt much for mods to the motor. How do you like the Holley setup and are you using stock coils? Truck looks killer by the way!!

I keep reading where guys are running high 20*s or even 30* of timing with lots of boost but mine is not one of them.

My average was 9.20 and I got runner up. I was stoked, i went mainly to make some test hits and see if it would 60ft decent
