Default Turbo to small questions

I have a 6.0 block and i'm trying to figure out what turbo I want. I'm thinking about something like a T70 turbo but EVERY post I read pretty much says anything under a 72mm is to small for a 6.0.

What I want to know is WHY. Why is it to small? Looking for 600-700whp. But again what makes it to small?

i want to use a small turbo for quick boost and lower power output. i just dont want it, yet. check my thread. they all say too small exhaust side for too much backpressure. the 5.9 cummins flows way more air than 6.0 and i'm at just under 400/800 rwhp/tq in my pickup with a HX35.

The problem is that it takes a lot for a T70 to push 700hp if at all.

to the OP the compressor is just fine, the turbine is what is not suited for alot of rpm/power on the v8

if you get a t70 get one with atleast a Q trim turbine, be just fine for your goals

Is this why most ppl just go with the bigger turbo because it has a bigger turbine and is just easier?

so something like T-70, Q-Trim .96 AR but the prices i'm seeing something like that for i'm much better off with the S475.

I ran a 76mm on a 408ci for a short time... it spooled great and made good power, but it had very high backpressure (which is not easy on the motor) I think it got it up in the mid 700 rwhp range, but we couldnt get more power out of it. I think that turbo will be okay for LOW boost like 5-8psi max, before you start choking the motor with the small turbine wheel on it. I went to a 91mm and made 1020rwhp... now I have a billet Comp Turbo 88mm that shouuld make a little more hp but spool faster.

The other reason is where the compressor operates at on the map.
When you run the compressor over on the right hand side of the map, the compressor has to spin a lot more rpm in general. The is hard on the shaft and bearings so the turbo doesn't last as long. It also makes the air hotter in general so you are actually putting less oxygen in the motor and less power than you would with a bigger compressor at the same boost level.

The S472-475 with the 83mm T6 is the best bang for the buck if you plan on more than around 12psi. If space is an issue than a cast PT7675 is comparable.
