Take a look at the "auto" section of the forum. They quite have a bit of information you can use.

im with tally.. i enjoy the **** outta mine too with the 6 speed.. but i know with 106 mph i should be running mid 6's right now. then again i have no suspension and old *** et streets. i went 7.13 on a 1.8 60' ft so i if i could just get that down to a 1.6 i know id have an easy 6.8 that id be happy as **** with... for a few weeks. Plus with 3.54 rear gears i know im not helping the situation with a t56

If you can wait several months and truly want something unique, call Jeremy at RPM. They built a T56 for me that had the GForce 9310 dog cut gearset faceplated by Liberty. Was an awesome concept. The setup is good to 2000 hp. It probably wouldn't be comfortable as a DD. It took so long to get the job done I went ahead with a TH400 from FTI but you could probably get them started now and be ready for the spring season. Monster triple disk clutch that was waiting to go into mine might still be available too. It ain't cheap but has a lot of promise. I've already parted mine out so will not have any data on the performance figures for it. Would love to see someone that had the time try it though.
For a superbly performing transmission also rated at 2000 HP I cannot speak highly enough of Greg at FTI. He was in constant contact through the build and has held our hand through the entire install. Had a problem he didn't like the sound of and he had me ship it back to him to check out. All within two weeks. I am completely stoked about going to the TH400, especially with Greg backing it up.

I know of people running TT Vipers and those make way more TQ than you'll get. Some ran them with stock T56 boxes and some upgraded to G-Force boxes. Breakages were about the same.
Lesson - it comes down to the driver and the luck of the box in your car. Just run what you have and don't crash the gears. If you have a good one, the box will last fine as long as you are smooth. Shifts can be quick as long as they are smooth. If you are brutal then you break stuff, but at 700rwhp brutal will mean swapping ends from lost traction, so smooth is your friend to staying straight and safe. I'd keep the T56.... you can always swap to an auto if you break it

Another die hard T56 guy chiming in...
I absolutely love rowing my own gears, but when it came down to it, especially on a big single setup that I will be building, the difference between a manual and a built auto is going to be huge.
Inevitably, I bought myself a TH400. lol
